RCZ whistles while it works

Unread post by randomandy »

I was out driving in the RCZ that we have just bought (1.6 petrol version) and noticed that it has an odd whistle!

The noise is just audible above the road noise and lasts a couple of seconds with the tone dropping part way through. Initially I thought that it only occurred when the clutch pedal was pressed but I also noticed it happen a couple of times when taking foot my off the accelerator and the car starting to coast.

When I thought it was just happening when the clutch pedal was used I thought it might be either the master or slave cylinder leaking or depressurising but not so convinced now I've heard it when coasting and not changing gear.

Is this something we should get looked at or is it just another quirk of the already quirky RCZ?

It is probably the dump valve that releases turbo boost when the throttle is rapidly closed. It is a normal operation, but not normally obtrusive. It gets louder if the turbo inlet pipe is loose, or one of the breather pipes connected to that has fallen off.

Do you have a map to point me in the right direction to look for loose bits?
