Hi.
I have a Peugeot expert van that has a issues with:
1. P0603- ecu internal fault, EEPROM failure( incorrect signature.
2. P0602- downloading fault, absence of or a fault in the downloading procedure.
I don’t know if this helps but someone had put a wire around the +battery post and another wire to the harness on passengers side, spliced in for something random, im not sure what it was for and there was a blown 10 A fuse placed within they wires, that when I stupidly replaced the blown fuse, when I was looking into a problem with my rear lights, it popped the fuse and immediately since then my power steering isn’t 100% the light is on and they error codes are coming up.

That's a big no no to be honest. Sounds like somebody has tried to take a feed for some aftermarket equipment and caused an issue. This being the case it's not hard to see that a short or overload has occurred. Whether there is damage to an ECU or not we can't tell at this point. P0603 is the generic portion of the fault code. To identify which ECU, you would need the following 2 digits, otherwise we can't tell which ECU it is. It could be the engine ECU or another ECU entirely.
As for the EEPROM failure part, this can be a mis-configuration, or as a result of some electrical damage. If I were, you, I would try and trace what that splice and fuse is for and where it's going. But I'd certainly not recommend you reconnect it. I would suggest removing it, but you really need to find out first what it is doing. I'd also disconnect the battery whilst you are troubleshooting as you don't want any further potential ECU damage.

I’m not to sure if the data coming back from the EHPS pump is corrupt, I.E the CAN high and low info not marrying up,( oscilloscope required ),or if the whole system is effectively stuck with the incorrect info stored in certain components individual ECU’s,( requiring software to be rewritten). ?
Some thinking on the battery is that if it’s not holding above a certain voltage then power is restricted to the EHPS, so i checked and
The battery is dropping to 12.18V after 10 hours or so, voltage dropping down to 10.8V at stating and quickly jumps up to 14.5 after running. Seems ok to me, if anything a little short at resting voltage,(12.18V) but I think I’m being picky.
I have tried all relearning procedures and even tried removing all current from the vehicle to drain the individual ECU’s with the thinking that they would loss any old or stored fault info which may be getting sent back to the main ECU/PCM, which would then require individual ECU’s to then reset.
There is other codes of u1218- inter systems CAN
p1536- brake pedal sensor A
&
p0215- principle relay.
Any other idea’s would be really appreciated as I’m totally lost now

A 'U****' Fault is generally a communication fault on one or more data networks - in this case the IS CAN which tells us either the data is missing or corrupt from one or more ECUs that is connected to the network.
A corrupt EEPROM chip from the P0602 & P0603 codes above is not going to recover on its own. Either an attempt has been made to configure it and this has failed or was halted mid-point through the procedure and the data on it has become corrupt (whether as a result of an electrical surge or other I can't say). At this point it is not being recognised and can't perform its function. The hard bit is finding out which one (which is where the last 2 digits would come in) to see where the ECU is located.

These would normally be shown in Diagbox (the proprietary diagnostic software used by Citroen, Peugeot, DS). Of course it depends on the age of the vehicle and the ECUs on board as to the depth of info you will get. The later vehicles generally have a lot more codes or extensions to existing codes (in the form of the additional 2 digits) to further aid with troubleshooting.

Spot on. Thanks Marc. I will get into that. I am at the auto electrician tomorrow hopefully he can scan it correctly to find out these extra digits related to the faulty ecu.

Well no luck today. Auto electrician said he thinks it’s the pump unit but he hasn’t tested it fully and can’t get any more info from the vehicle, even using 2 different scan tools, apparently 1 was a really expensive bit of kit and neither of them could find the other 2 digits, which would specify which ecu had failed.
The funny thing is the steering was completely away with zero assistance today on the drive down but half way there it came back to about 90% ?
I’m at a total loss now, Peugeot will not look at it apparently as it it a black taxi and I am left with the options of buying a new pump unit, on the hope it will cure it.
Its an expensive part and I can’t believe that I caused this damage with the fuse scenario.
The wires that I had replaced the fuse was spliced into the wiring loom for the rear courtesy lights at one end, the other end was around the positive terminal of the battery,(when I bought the thing with a said blown fuse ),and when I replaced the 10A fuse it blew straight away and immediately left the issue with the electric steering pump. The wire should have been round the negative terminal instead of the positive, hence the blown fuse from before I bought it.
Can it really cause all that damage and any other ideas at all mate ?
