Xantia - A/C fault

Unread post by Jaf »

Hi. The A/C switch lights up but the engine cooling fans don't start up, so no compressor clutch clicking on either.

I'm not sure if the fans come on when there's an A/C fault?

A/C was cooling a couple of days ago. Engine cooling fans work for normal engine cooling. A/C compressor fairly new, 3 years iirc, though neglected to re-gas.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

Yes, the fans should run as soon as the A/C button is pressed - as far as I recall...

If the fans work for cooling when it's hot then we know they work.

The first thing to do is to see if the system has sufficient pressure to operate... This can be checked very quickly by seeing if the the Hi/Lo switch on top of the receiver/drier bottle is giving the correct condition to allow the A/C to run...

For the life of me I can't remember exactly but I believe if the system has enough pressure the switch contacts wired to the two thick wires on the 4-way plug should be closed and the contact wired to the two thin wires should be open...

Maybe another Xantia owner with a working A/C can confirm?
