P611 Air Bag Light

Unread post by ianmcc »

Hi Folks,

Air bag lights are an MOT fail this year. I had 'P611 - Right Front Satellite' on DiagBox.

After a lot of messing around this turned out to be the small green thing behind the Seat Belt Tensioner - ~£80 from the Dealer - and an easy fix.

Just to let you know ........, Ian

I think you may have a dodgy keyboard!
You're missing a digit from your vehicle model in your profile to the left and a a digit from the fault code.

Yes. OK, sorry about the '8' - but the code is correct. 610 on the left side and 611 on the right side.

is there a full list/description of these DiagBox Codes available anywhere ? Ian

No, as there are thousands of codes..... and these can change with each vehicle, engine ECU and equipment fitted. see if this is

Pop your VIN (please post your VIN in full without spaces - it will be automatically masked from public view after submitting your post & will only be visible to staff) and I'll see if that code is valid and returns anything.

Thanks Marc,

Yes, I was thinking there was no fixed list ! This one is 2010 Sochaux car VF3**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff].

Don't worry about P610/1 that was just to help anybody else. I like the car and hope to get another 60k+ out of it. Mechanically it is fine, but if (unused) electronic components like this are failing that could be a problem. I needed the car for a holiday, but without an MOT was having to look at hiring (very costly !). The garage was booked up for 2 weeks and the Dealer had a 10day wait for Diagnostics so quick DIY was the only option.

There are two 'satellites' fitted, one (610) is the 'g' sensor and above it (at £150) is the 'crush' sensor. I could have replaced both and still not had an MOT. I was hoping the diagnostics would be more specific than this. Jim at ED was very helpful (quick plug WMWare 15.5 and DiagBox 9.91 work really well now!), but he doesn't have all the fault codes nailed down. If you have a moment I have a similar non-specific BSI fault :

F017 No communication with additive (Local/Non-characterised)

I have replaced the Eolys bag (which split) and the wiring looked OK - could this be the pump ? (No PDF issues as the car only does highway driving)

Thanks, Ian

Hi Ian, ok, so just going back on those P610 / P611 codes - they are not returning as valid on any PSA vehicle - nothing at all. So unless there is any more to the code, or a parent code, I can't help with that.

Not much more help on the F014 either as officially, it is listed as:
F017 Fault: absence of communication with the diesel additive pump : Not characterised

A non-characterised fault means just that, there is no other data so it doesn't know what's wrong. This can be the case if the multiplexed additive pump has lost communication with the engine ECU - so there is no data, nothing. In the case where the additive pump has been dry-running (quite likely if you had a leak), it may have overheated and destroyed the pump control unit.

The pump is item (33), part: 1525LH, £291.94. This is only available new from Peugeot in 'unconfigured' form, so will need configuring and priming. However, please be advised that Diagbox V9.** is for later vehicles and configuration of ECUs is restricted to online mode, meaning you need a PSA log in and purchased tokens to configure some ECUs. I can't say for sure if this includes the additive pump, but I would highly recommend you stick to version 7 of diagbox to be able to telecode if necessary. Jim should be able to provide this for you. Then upgrade to version 7.58 and leave it there.

The pump module is shown here at (3)
matty additive pump b.PNG
On replacement it says initialise the pump, so likely priming as I mentioned above.

One here £182:

Thanks, Marc, great help ! Just what I needed.

Weird about the Codes, confirms what I was suspecting ............ they are not telling us everything ! As the bag replacement is a Service item I was assuming there would be a simple routine to initialise/prime the pump, but with no Comms there is not much I can do. Fortunately a 'Triangle' is not (yet) an MOT fail. Not a DIY routine, either, which is disappointing.

Thanks for highlighting the compatibility issues on 9.91. I hadn't realised. My issue was with ports on the Virtual machine as I no longer have a working Win 7 machine; back to 7.58 it is ..... thanks again, Ian

DB 9 should allow 'maintenance operation' such as replacement parts and priming, it's just that they have now restricted ECU configuration to online mode only in most cases with V9.**.

Just thought I should mention that in case it does require some additional info inputting once you have replaced it and do manage to get communication going. Let us know how you get on.

……. just to follow through on this one …………….

I get the warning ‘Triangle’ (all the time) + ‘Risk of Filter Blocking’ (at start), but have not had any ‘Diesel Additive low level’, or any other warnings. An EGR fault did come up last year and it was replaced (without advising the system). The car runs fine at ~55mpg (mostly long trips).

Couldn’t face buying a new pump from Peugeot for £200+ so got one on eBay (Citroen) for ~£50. Have just put this in and returned to DB 7.57. Removed pump as on the image attached.

The system now comes up with ‘POMPE_MAX_MGI’ as the Additive pump Control Unit. In the ECU Repair Pack I notified the change of pump and bag and it comes back with ‘Operation Completed’ on both. I still have P1434/P1435 in the ECU faults, but I am guessing these might work their way out. (+ P1351 pre-heat relay still to fix).

I assumed the pump would need to be ‘Configured’, but, as you said, this is ‘online’ needing PSA tokens, and 7.57 won’t do this either. However, the pump is obviously configured (for something ?) and so doesn’t seem to need this. EDC16C3 PEF Report attached - does this look about right ?

I’ve probably done ~ 60k miles (75k - 135k) with no Eolys injection so I am assuming that the displayed weight of additive figure - 127g - may not be correct, but regeneration does appear to clear the filter. The 3,000rpm pressure is 27mbar.

So I plan to ignore the warning for a while longer …. thanks Marc for your many helpful posts on this.

Ok, so the first thing is the
‘Risk of Filter Blocking’ (at start)
. This will continue to appear as there is 127 grammes in weight recorded of additive dumped into the filter via the fuel over time. Although this is a calculated value, it is way over the service life of circa 97 grammes.

The additive pump may not need configuring, but it will need priming when replaced, which is done via Diagbox in the replacement parts menu. This undertakes a priming procedure to ensure correct operation. This is a maintenance operation so should be available. Ditto for the EGR valve replacement as that resets the adaptives.

..... yes, I have had some very cheap miles. Putting in cash for a new PDF, clutch etc before 150k and I should get be getting some more.

However, with dead sensors, broken actuators, and limited software access making MOTs very costly in time I'd lost confidence.

I think I have got it back now - thanks, Marc !
