You may remember all the problems I had with my red C5 estate, I have been having with air getting into the fuel system. The car wouldn't start if it had been facing uphill or would die on you after a few hundred yards. After replacing a good length of fuel pipe and the fuel filter housing it was very much better, its now learnt a new trick.
Starts and drives fine until after 10 miles or so, on the flat or even up a steep hill, then when you slow down usually going down hill it just stops, it will often start again with prolonged use of the starter the goes OK until the same down hill slope, sometimes it just misfires and then runs again at others it stops. There is now no discernable air in the system at any of the clear pipe sections and the primer bulb is hard.
I can't get the Lexia to connect to it, I suspect I am not giving it the correct information, can somebody run through the set up procedure for me before I put it in the middle of the field and set light to it.

Hi Peter, before you start the Viking burial procedure, give your car a drive with the fuel filler cap removed, you may be suffering a block tank breather...... Just a thought....
Good luck
Good luck

Re: That wretched C5 X7 stalling again.
Tried that thanks Stu. One thing I didn't mention is that when you get it to start again it will only rev to about 3000 rpm if you try and drive it like that it will stop again, if you keep revving it eventually it goes to 5000 rpm and then drives perfectly. It happened last night, my son borrowed it to go to Axminster about 7 miles, he said it started and drove perfectly until he got into the town where it promptly stopped and held all the traffic up, he wasn't happy. He had been able to start it eventually and drive into a side road where it stopped again. He then called me out of course, once I got it to rev up to 5000 I drove it home and it was fine until I started going down hill into the forest then it started misfiring again, I gave it another good rev and it was fine. He refused to drive it home so took my car.

Sorry can't help you with that, mine just connects, I'm sure someone may be able to give some help. Might help if you explain what you do when connecting to the car.Peter.N. wrote: 08 Oct 2022, 23:48 I can't get the Lexia to connect to it, I suspect I am not giving it the correct information, can somebody run through the set up procedure for me before I put it in the middle of the field and set light to it.

Without diagnostics and error codes, an assessment is hardly possible.Peter.N. wrote: 08 Oct 2022, 23:48

The driving behaviour suggests that the engine ECU switches to "emergency running".
Unfortunately, I can't tell from the post which diagnostic software is actually installed.
The vehicle is probably a C5 X7 2008.
If the DIAGBOX V07xx is installed, the DIAGBOX must also be selected and not the LEXIA.
If only the old LEXIA 3.48 software is installed, then the C5 X7 can still be diagnosed with it until approx. 2009.
Basically the following applies here:
The DIAGBOX contains three software packages:
LEXIA for Citroen up to approx. 2007/2008 - for example XM XANTIA etc.
Planet for Peugeot up to approx. 2007/2008
DIAGBOX for newer Citroen and Peugeot vehicles
Always connect the VCI before starting the DB -then start the DB.
And if the DB is installed, it must also be used with priority if it is offered in the selection.
Case 1: After selecting the vehicle, the LEXIA alternative warnings are displayed - diagnostically, this is an older vehicle - only LEXIA is possible and must be selected.
Case 2: After selecting the vehicle, DIAGBOX alternatively LEXIA is displayed - diagnostically, the software is switched to the DB from a certain firmware, so that the DB must also be selected - the theoretical use of LEXIA makes no sense because only 2-3 ECUs are displayed.
Case 3: With newer vehicles there is no selection - the diagnostic software automatically selects the DB.
If the software is installed correctly, the VCI is OK and the diagnostic socket has no error, then the following must be done:
In principle, diagnosis is only carried out with ignition on - without engine on.
Although the DB - in contrast to the LEXIA - can be started without VCI - you should connect this beforehand - saves some superfluous clicks. Use the correct (unlocked) USB and check whether the green light from the VCI first flashes and then lights up.
I can only tell you how to proceed once I know the software version you are using.
It would be ideal if a forum member near you with a functioning DIAGBOX would help you - then it can also be checked whether the diagnostic software/VCI etc. are suitable.

Re: That wretched C5 X7 stalling again.
Both of the cars are 2008 but the faulty one was registered in December. I'm pretty sure that diagbox is installed. The system came from Mick the Maverick and he couldn't get it to connect when he was here, it displays the car but wont connect to it. I understand I have to enter the VIN number, is this correct and do I have to enter all of it?
Thanks

Re: That wretched C5 X7 stalling again.
Peter this may be no help at all but I recalled Gibbo having some problems with his resurrected C5 for a period, seemingly unsolvable and documented in this thread entitled "Silly thought". Bits of it may be relevant to your problem. Page 1 of the 6 starts here viewtopic.php?t=63059.
If you want to skip to the end where gibbo announces solving of the problem, although I don't think it was certain exactly what brought about the cure, this is his concluding post.

The chassis number must only be entered for very old vehicles before 2001 - and always every 14 characters.Peter.N. wrote: 09 Oct 2022, 22:37 Both of the cars are 2008 but the faulty one was registered in December. For a C5 X7, this chassis number must be recognised automatically.
However, the correct model must always be selected first.
If your Diagbox does not work with either of your C5s, the problem is probably with the diagnostic device - usually the VCI.
You must therefore seek help from a fellow forum member in your area who has a functioning diagnostic tool.
There is a list in the forum - it can't be solved by writing and I live too far away from you.
Greetings Wolfgang
