When do i expect to top Eloy tank

Unread post by Sloppysod »

Just two simple questions
My C5, 2011, 2.0 HDI, Auto, has done 89,900 (ish), I have owned it since 35,000(ish) so I know its history quiet well.
  • At what mileage shall I expect to see a warning about my Eolys level being low?
  • I don't know but I imagine my car has a bag so, if it's imminent can I top it up early without any waste before it gets too cold in my garage/on my drive?
Cheers

The servicing schedule for your specific vehicle states under 'normal' driving conditions, the additive level would be checked at 60k miles and then every 20k miles. The DPF checked for clogging at 120k miles and again, thereafter every 20k miles.

You have a reservoir, not a bag Stu, so is gravity fed using a refill kit.

Without knowing if was previously topped up, before your ownership, but assuming not and given the current mileage I would probably top it up now (minimum 1 litre).

The following table is for the DW10CTED4 engine and the X7 and shows the estimated levels remaining in the tank after the mileages indicated and this is under severe driving conditions, i.e. arduous countries or driving lots of short journeys etc.
Distance covered ( kilometres )0300006000090000
Distance covered (miles )0187503750056250
Quantity ( litres )1,571,1140,6580.202
Note that on this vehicle 1.57 Litres is the factory-filled amount! Diagbox can provide you with the estimated fluid remaining, so you can use that as a guide for refilling - a top up operation of 1 Litre is the recommended though, with the replacement of an additive tank only requiring slightly more. They recommend not to overfill the tank.

If you go in with diagbox it will tell you (estimated) how much is left in the tank.

Thanks both, when I get home (next week) I will look into it, however, if I remember rightly, when I looked into it with my 2003 C5, it means making a fancy bit of pipe and getting the left rear wheel as high as possible🤔 and that this stuff is VERY corrosive so any suggestions please?

And according to the chart above, in Marcs post, the tank is very probably near on empty.😩

You can buy the refills with a filling kit which includes the pipes Stu. As long as the fluid bottle is higher than the tank, it should flow in easily enough. It just makes the tank access easier to get to as you will already need to have removed the heat shield to get to the pipes in any case, so will need to raise the rear up most likely with the jack as a minimum.

Marc - I appreciate your suggestion to add a litre however.....
I have just dug out the Diagbox and after a little browsing manged to find the information about the Eloy levels & PEF condition.
If I understand the information correctly I wont need a top-up for another 91,968km (57,000 miles). As I am now doing less than 8,000 miles a year this is about another 7 years before its empty, or 5 years before it requires filling!
Info from Diagbox
I read on table on another screen that there have been 92 pumps - Would this be from new, what volume is injected per 'pump'?
"Amount of additive in Additive tank = 1141 Ml" - According to the amount left vs the tank volume it has used only 239 Ml since last fill - I have not added any
"Additive reservoir volume = 1380 Ml"
"Degree of clogging of PEF with Soot = 61%" - is this value current and will it be lower after next regen?
"Distance remaining before replacement PEF = 91968 km"

My dilemma is:-
Do I believe the numbers and leave it another few years and wait for the warning message.......or do I buy a litre and top it up and store whats left in the bottle?

And looking at the info I have am I right in saying it should have "InfineumF7995" (9736.98) as my RPO is 12489, without checking to see if it has a Green retaining clip.

Appologies for long post and thanks for reading

You need Eolys EXTEND for your C5 X7 Stu. This is the replacement for Infineum F7995.

From the looks of it, you don't need topping up for ages yet, so leave it as you have only used a third of the original additive added at the factory.

The soot count will rise and fall depending on when you run the diagnostics and of course since the last regeneration was undertaken.
