Finally success, sorted the wiring issue.

Yet again I managed to mix up the wires. But fortunately I did something good. I ordered wiring of the same colour as in the harness and connected them together. So I only had to move the spade terminals into the correct order so I have continuity.

Waiting for battery to charge fully before attempting to start her up.

I did notice a tiny crack in the camshaft sensor so replaced it with new Delphi brand, likewise replaced Crankshaft sensor with new Febi brand..

Question re new sensors fitted will the ECU's recognise same or do I have to use the Diagbox for this ?

One thing to watch out for when soldering is that where the solder alloys with the underlying copper wire it can become very brittle and over time can break and go open-circuit in areas of high vibration...

Also, the heat shrinking must be very good to prevent any risk of moisture ingress else corrosion will develop and rot the joint - a common problem still on Xantia wiring harnesses that used soldered splices...

Wago connectors are good but similarly will need very careful moisture proofing...

I still favour a good crimped straight joiner... They must be correctly sized and properly crimped using a high-quality tool. The cheap, flat crimp tools usually supplied in crimp kits are absolutely useless...

It increases the complexity, the cost and the size of the joint but Wago have a range of moisture-proof enclosures that will hold several connectors.
Probably over the top for this sort of job and probably too bulky as well.

I have done soldering and crimps in the footwell and it was no fun at all.

I had something I wanted crimping recently. I should have hundreds of them that came with the professional crimping tool I replaced the crap on with.
Naturally, couldn't find them and resorted to solder and heat shrink.
This was before I bought any Wago and Ideal connectors.
