Removal of ac compressor

I'm planning to remove the ac compressor on my little 206cc as to be honest the ac rad had been taken out plus a pipe has been removed last yr. Reason ac was empty and almost £100 was spent else where rather than a 2006 old car that only gets used when i fancy driving it.
My plan is to removed the compressor and fit a smaller aux belt.
Its a convertible so my air con is roof down. Im old school

I've done it on a few Xantias in the past but don't know if on the 206CC there's a clear run for the belt with the AC compressor removed...

Size the belt you will need using a piece of stout string. It'll also show if a route is possible for a shortened belt...

Belts are available in a huge range of lengths and profiles...

Further to Jim's comment if you find that there is no clear route for the shortened belt you may be able to fit a simple pulley in place of the compressor to enable you to keep the original belt route. I actually achieved that on a Ford Scorpio by removing the innards of the compressor but leaving the body, shaft bearings and pulley in place. Obviously that did give slightly more resistance than a clean belt but pretty insignificant once free running.

I think 8valve 2.0 HDi there's an obstruction that partially blocks the shortened belt route, but no problem on the 1.6 HDi

Haven't written the belt size down (I tend to remember useless information and I think it is 6pk725 but don't rely on my memory, two children is definitely eroding my recall abilities!

Matt this is brilliant my friend im getting hyper ! Cant wait to do this, also did an oil measurement draining the engine what i was told was wrong , mine holds 3.2L not 4.8 ! No wonder its pushing it out the valve cover !!! I should of trusted my gut feeling 3 months ago. So it should be all good now.

Like the photos Matt , very impressed and it works to just look at the space you get back too ! Don't forget the belt length and recheck the number of the belt too , let me know when your free to do so.
