How easy is it to replace the front passenger's side door and barrel lock on MK1 C4?
Is there a difference between the 5dr petrol body vs 5dr diesel body of the MK1? I've found a donor door, from a 1.4 MK1 C4 petrol, that is the exact same year.

The 5 door models have the same doors. The only thing you need to watch is the type of wiring you may have for the electronic controls of the door mirrors / electric windows, as these may have different wiring looms based on trim level, but the physical doors are the same.
I can't tell if you can gain access to the interior of the door mechanism once you have removed the trim and door card to get access to the door locking mechanism without removing the window or not unfortunately, but some parts may need the rivets drilling out.

Thanks
I thought it may be the case of disconnecting the electric plug at the hinge when removing the door, and presuming the new door loom would plug in to the old one by the hinge?
I'm just wondering worst case scenario if this would be a 1 hour job? I can find the same door from the petrol model for £45.
I'm trying to tidy the car up, the front passenger's door has a big dent/scratches along it and plastic outside trim missing (not my doing). Looks like a door swap would be the cheapest solution.

The intermediate wiring looms can be different depending on build date and options. For example sequential window lift or not / electric rear windows and whether they are sequentially operated also; then there's the type of locking system which can be different depending on trim and build date.
I guess the only way is to try, but just be mindful of whether there are the same number of connections and if they match up.

To swap the door lock barrel from the other door this takes less than a minute. I you open the door you will see a little rubber grommet in line with the lock barrel on the face above the door latch mechanism. pop the grommet off & there is a T-20 screw in the hole, undo the screw about 3 turns then you can just pull the barrel out.
