C5 Power steering

Unread post by Steve Walsh »

Evening all.

I have a 2013 C5 Tourer 2.0 hdi. My power steering return pipe, ( cooler ) has a very slight leak,

I am going to attempt a repair or build a new one from tube, as Citroen have made it no longer available.

My question is, does anyone know the max pressure in the return system, If any. I can't see why there would be much but thought I would ask you clever folk

Thanks

Steve

Looking on the Web, your looking at between 80 and 140 bars ( 1160-2030 psi) www.citroenet.org.uk/passenger-cars/psa/c5/c5tech1.html

The Electro Power Steering pump provides a maximum pressure of 93 Bar, but I can't tell you what the return pressure is.
Please note, I'm no longer active on the Forum, so won't respond to messages.

Thanks Marc, I can't see it being very high as it is only dumping fluid back to the pump / reservoir.

A forum member on here is sending me some steering rack parts and pipework for me to explore modifying the system to use "real" hydraulic fittings, most likely tapping the ports out to NPT then going in with NPT x JIC nipples. If you can wait a few weeks, I'll have worked out a replacement pipework setup.
