My English teaching daughter tells me that the Elizabethan age has been succeeded by the new Carolean age.
I personally think that sounds wrong, and if it is right then it should be changed to a more accurate representation of the name Charles so I was curious to get other people's views?

Re: The New Era
Only an "age" if it spans generations for me........ "the 3rd Carolean era" would be more appropriate IMHO.
There is such a long history that "significant ages" can be separated from "normal eras"

Re: The New Era
Never really recognised it before, other than in a Steely Dan song with one of the greatest bits of guitar work by Larry Carlton, and in a habitual guess on University Challenge the name...
Charlemagne which patently when you look at is Charles the Great (Latin: Carolus Magnus; German: Karl der Große)
Literally knew nothing about Charlemagne until spurred by the thread starter I looked up the wiki page. Never mind the regnal numbers, everyone knows William the Conqueror, William of Orange, Edward the Confessor, Richard the Lionheart.
The old Charles the Great from the wiki page had a decent cv to follow
Regards Neil

We could do with a period of energetic cultural and intellectual activity....Charlemagne has been called the "Father of Europe" (Pater Europae), as he united most of Western Europe for the first time since the classical era of the Roman Empire, as well as uniting parts of Europe that had never been under Frankish or Roman rule. His reign spurred the Carolingian Renaissance, a period of energetic cultural and intellectual activity

Regards NeilWhile we don't know what the King's coin portrait will look like, a coin issued in 2018 by the Royal Mint to commemorate his 70th birthday gave us a hint. And one thing that seems certain is that he will be shown facing the other way - to the left. Tradition dictates that the direction in which the monarch faces on coins must alternate for each new monarch.

Re: The New Era
Charlemagne in Latin is Carolus Maximus and this is the root of Carolean.
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.
