Clutch pedal stays on the floor
As a total novice I seek some advice on my C5 X7 - I had to be towed to my local garage yesterday when I found I couldn't use the clutch. The pedal just stayed on the floor, as if a return spring had broken. The garage response was it was more likely a hydraulic fault and that a valve which is located inside the gearbox near the flywheel had failed. Would anyone here like to make some suggestions on what the likely cause might be and what the scale of work to fix it might be?

Shame if the slave cylinder is within the bell housing. My two C5's, earlier versions, were external and easy to work on.

Re: Clutch pedal stays on the floor
Your car has an external clutch slave cylinder so if it has failed it should be less than an hour to replace & bleed. The gearbox does not need to be removed on this car to replace it.

Re: Clutch pedal stays on the floor
Not sure what year your car is. Ours, a 2013 2.0l hdi Exclusive with 75k miles failed on the way through France in May 2022.
It was repaired in France and the cost for replacing both the slave and clutch master cylinders (maybe a kit) was £468 or 507 Euros.
For interest the work was done from above as the engine undertray was not touched.
Hope that helps.

If it can happen it will.

Re: Clutch pedal stays on the floor
It turned out the the slave cylinder is external! Phew! £93. Compared to the cost of 3 litres of Serine fluid and labour time for 'regeneration' it was a slight relief!
Thanks all.
Thanks all.
