Peugeot Expert/ Cit Dispatch/ Proace cruise control

Unread post by tmead »

Just thought i'd share - Latest acquistion is a Toyota Proace for conversion to a camper. its a Peugeot Expert with minimal trim changes to Toyota.

I am a big fan of cruise control, and the speed limiter around town at 30 makes it much easier to concentrate on what's outside the car. I looked behind the steering wheel on the van and the little cutout in the column shroud appeared to be exactly the same as other car versions, so I tried fitting a cruise stalk. It slotted straight in ! OK, step one complete.

My old lexia would connect to it, but the copy of Diagbox (7.06) which has served me faithfully for pre 2010 cars wouldnt talk to the engine ECU for the 2013 van. I could see and talk to most of the other areas. I could turn on the cruise in the BSI, but couldnt access the engine ECU. After a few frustrating connection sessions I found an option for fitting cruise control - i think as an upgrade package, along with trailer wiring and the like. That worked to turn on the cruise, but only the basic version.

I opened up the Lexia and saw that its only a partial version, not 'full chip'. Thinking that could also be the issue, and with a 2016 308 to diagnose too, I stumped up the cash and bought a full chip version, and spent several hours installing Diagbox 7.83 on a virtual machine - lo and behold I can now talk to the engine ECU ! On previous cars there's been a single option for cruis control with a menu choice for either absent, cruise only or cruise with limt. Not on the van - that has separate options for limtiing, and also a separate limit which I think could be turned on to limit max speed too. I've turned on the limit options and left the cruise optoin on and now I have both !

Interestingly a trailer module for a 308T9 connects perfectly to the connectors behind the rear left interior panel, and is recognised without bother. It's working well, even if the wiring harness is only just long enough. no idea where it's supposed to give driver indication of successful trailer connection though, as there's no beeper or flashing light. I've left the working retrofit reverse sensors alone, as the hassle of swapping out for the peugeot ones with the right ECU seems too much.

So there you go - full chip lexia and Diagbox 7.83 will happily talk to a Toyota Proace !
