I own a 2012 Citroen Relay (Euro 5). At around 112000 miles the oil pump failed causing some major damage and I had to rebuild the engine (this took some time). Having rebuilt and reinstalled the engine I then found the turbo had also been damaged from the oil starvation so I have now replaced that too.
The van now starts fine and the turbo isn't making any strange noises but the engine is under-powered. On the flat it drives relatively ok although the turbo doesn't seem to kick in until the revs are above 2000 and it doesn't seem consistent, on hills it noticeably struggles at lower revs.
During my first run out I had the engine management light come on and entered limp mode. Limp mode reset when I restated. This generally happened on long hills on the motorway in 6th gear at around 65 mph. I found that doping a gear on the hills generally seemed to prevented the fault from occurring. Following the trip out of about 300 miles, a scan reviled the flowing codes:
P0489 Measurement of the position of the EGR valve
P0244 Measurement of the position of the Turbocharger
P0299 Charge pressure regulation
P0234 Charge pressure regulation
Now I had had the fault P0489 prior to replacing the Turbo so i decided to replace the EGR valve and I also changed the inlet manifold pressure sensor. Unfortunately this had no noticeable effect but I had a holiday planned and I bravely (or stupidly) set off in the van.
I drove the van carefully and didn't have to much trouble. It only faulted a couple of times on the long drive from MK to Cornwall. On the last leg of the return journey it played up repeatedly and actually become undrivable at one point. I got the laptop out and run a scan which reveled all of the above, plus:
P16A0 Detection of oil separation after cutting out
U0121 Non conformation of engine torque
I cleared the faults and managed to get home with only a couple more hiccups, I scanned both times and got P0244 - position of the turbocharger.
Not sure if there is a relation between the P16A0 and U0121 with the original 4 faults, but I assume the original faults are all related.
Any thoughts on what could be the cause, or what to check would be very greatly appreciated
Thanks
Ian
