Squealing Brakes

Post by gwoolie »

I re-newed the front discs and pads on my Xantia a few weeks ago.
All working fine and bedded in??
But now they have started to squeal.
The shims and everything went in correctly.
Any ideas??

Did you smear some HMP grease on the backs of the pads?

try smearing the back of the brake pads with copperslip/coppergrease, should do the trick. the squeeling normally is the calliper vibrating slightly on the back of the pads, the coppergrease cures it

Are you sure its the front brakes that are noisy? The back brakes are quite common for being noisy too. There is a certain method for dealing with that.

before fitting the disks did u thoroughly remove all traces of rust etc from the wheel hub?
if any was left behind the disks will not lie perfectly flat and will behave like they are warped .... and squeal.
