C4 1.6L HDI fuel filter

Unread post by Ceenine »

Today I replaced the fuel filter on my car as it was showing P0057 and P0073 (from memory) on my Diagbox fault reading. There is an electrical plug which I had to click home on the underside of the new filter. There was not any electrical connectors as part of the filter which would provide any readings for the three wires attaching to the plug inserted into the female location. Can anyone tell me what the function of this male plug is for. Maybe on some filter versions it provides a reading for water present in the filter. This same phenomenon exists in my fuel filter set up in my C5 2.2 L.(ie no electrical prongs).

Hi Don

It's basically for the water in diesel detection and notification to the engine ECU, but this is not installed on this engine, so ignore it. On your 2.2 it does have an electrical connection and this would flag a warning on the dash via the engine ECU if it got to the stage where it needed attention.

Sorry Marc, no electrical prongs on 2.2l either. Maybe something on the RHR 2.0l.

Possibly, lots of later vehicles also don't have the sensor anymore, to save money, but the connection is officially shown on your 2.2 (DW12BTED4 FAP) at (16) on the second image.

Marc,
My engine designation is DW12CTED4 not DW12BTED4.

I was going off your C5 MK II 2.2 VIN ending in 541. You've got another addition then! :-D

Yes, upgraded several years ago when one of the last C5’s came on the market. They called it a Limited Edition to justify the elevated price with a subwoofer, the larger motor, sparkly paint, telematics but no reversing camera😭 of which you are aware. I must say it is much quieter than the previous model but wife and I reckon the older car cruised just a bit better at 110 km/h which is the legal maximum here. It seemed to drive itself, which I think relates to the different strut setup at the front maybe.
