2010 Citroen C5 X7 Tourer Electric parking brake issues

Hi there hope you can help me i have a 2010 C5 X7 Tourer exclusive and Suddenly car told me that the “Parking brake faulty" along with "anti rollback system faulty" Had it diagnosed and these were the codes that popped up:
F5FF: Unexpected Re-initialization fault coming from the built in systems interface
F01F: Fault No communication with EPB ECU
P0215: Main relay poor operation of relay, the ECU isn't being supplied as should be
U1319: Fault auto release of EPB no signal (intermittent)
U1119: Fault auto release of EPB no signal (permanent)

Based on these codes it appears to be a ECU issue however i should point out that every single electric system works in this car with no issues (ESP, Parking sensors, suspension, sports suspension activator, radio/Bluetooth etc) and it appears that power is going to the switch (light is on and no gauge cluster symbol telling me there is an issue other than the warnings) except for the EPB so i not sure if its on a separate system or not and i am not looking forward to the prospect of dropping almost 4 figures to have the EPB replaced. i would appreciate any and all help and if anyone is in the Berkshire/Hampshire areas i would appreciate any and all help in person in regards to this issue.

There appear to be several issues, but as you can see not all functions of the EPB will function - whilst these faults are active, the EPB will revert to manual mode, so be careful to make sure you engage the parking brake using the switch and don't rely on it automatically applying! Also Hill Start Assist won't function either whilst the faults are active.

Here are the descriptors for you, but whether the P0215 is related to the parking brake ECU I can't say. The parking brake ECU is a slave ECU controlled by the ABS / ESP ECU.

Fault Code:	P0215
Description of Fault:	Principal relay: Incorrect operation of the relay, the engine management ECU does not have the correct power supply. Engine ECU still supplied for 1s despite a request for cutting of its supply Loss of supply of the engine ECU for 1 s without a prior request being detected, due to an incorrect value memorised at the following wake-up
Conditions for Fault to clear:	Driving with the engine hot for 5 minutes
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active:	-
Symptoms:	Starting problem
Suspect Areas:	Electrical harness Connectors Principal relay

Fault Code:	U1318
Description of Fault:	Fault absence of communication with the built-in systems interface: No signal. The time for recording the fault code is 1000 milliseconds Incoherent state coming from the BSI
Conditions for Fault to clear:	Coherent data from the BSI
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active:	The regulation functions remain active Hill start assistance function inactive Switching of the electric parking brake to manual mode ESP/ASR indicator lamp, Electric parking brake automatic functions deactivation warning lamp, SERVICE indicator lamps lit
Symptoms:	Lighting of the ABS and ESP warning lamps
Suspect Areas:	Downloading: Control unit BSI Connectors Line CAN ESP ECU

Fault Code:	U1119
Description of Fault:	Electrically controlled parking brake (FSE) automatic trigger fault: No signal. The time of appearance of the fault code is 2s. Problem with the electric parking brake (FSE)
Conditions for Fault to clear:	The electric parking brake operates correctly
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active:
Symptoms:	The regulation functions remain active Electric parking brake function inactive Switching of the electric parking brake to manual mode ESP/ASR indicator lamp, Electric parking brake automatic functions deactivation warning lamp, SERVICE indicator lamp lit

Thanks for the advice its really appreciated however the EPB doesn't engage at all even after pulling it or even long pulls I am talking pulls of like 25 seconds.

Ok, so if it's not engaging at all then either the unit is faulty, or there is a supply problem.

Check Fuse F9 in the BFDB unit as shown here - this is responsible for the electronic parking brake:

Follow the BSI Reset / Battery Disconnect / Reconnect Procedure if disconnecting and reconnecting the battery first.

A friend of mine and myself replaced the F9 fuse with another 30A fuse and nothing. i also tired to BSI reset it myself admittedly i may have done it wrong as i followed i video. in the link you gave me i noticed it says For C5 X7 Tourer V6 Engines mine is a 2.0 165 if i remember right do i need to follow the tail gate instructions (mine is motorized) also when you say unit is faulty do you mean handbrake or the BDFB

The guide is to cover most models - but contains specific sections for stop / start / keyless entry models and those with motorised tailgates and the V6 Tourer models which have a specific section as the battery is in the boot. So only follow the relevant sections.

Back to the issue, I was referring to the electronic handbrake module as a possibility if other options have been exhausted. I missed one of the codes out - here is the U1319:

Has any work been carried out on the vehicle lately, including anything to do with the brakes / tyres?

Thanks for the advice i appreciate this, The BSI appeared to not work, based on the codes do you have some idea of what it is and how much it could be to fix as i am on a tiny bit of a budget as iam hoping that i do not have to replace the handbrake itself but the ECU/electronics could be a bit but just wanna get a idea as i may have to take it to Peugeot/Citroen in Newbury to mend.

i also have a problem with the electric parking brake not operating, firstly i have stupidly pulled the manual release which after investigation was unnecessary, getting underneath the car i discovered that the plastic adapters at the cable ends were broken ( i have ordered replacements) what i would like to know now is will the electric motor reset the cables after the emergency release was operated or do i have to take the motor apart. i realise that the ecu will have to be reset via the software. any help/comments very welcome

You should be able to apply the parking brake normally after using the emergency release - BUT do not turn the ignition on before following the procedure:

To re-engage the electronic parking brake (after rectifying the malfunction or battery failure)

1) Give a long pull on the control A until the parking brake warning lamp (!) flashes on the instrument panel, then give a second long pull until this warning lamp is lit permanently.
2) The time required for the subsequent application may be longer than during normal operation.
3) It is essential that the ignition is not switched on until the parking brake has re-engaged (flashing of the warning lamp (!) on the instrument panel then warning lamp lit permanently) to avoid damage to the parking brake.

thank you Marc, waiting for spares to arrive, will fit and re-try but not sure of current state of parking brake motor as i have recently purchased car with this problem already apparent, may possibly be damaged
