STOP - Engine Temperate Too High - Sensor advice

Unread post by DennyLoi83 »

Hi guys,

I got this message and the AA guy checked it out. According to the diagnostics, the sensor is stuck reading around 135 degrees, regardless of the actual engine temperature. Since he was sure it was a sensor issue and not a genuine overheating problem, we drove back a further 80 miles with no issues.

I have swapped out the sensor (see attached image) and replaced it with this one:
Citroen C2 C3 C4 C5 C6 C8 HDI Model Coolant Water Temperature Sensor 1338C1 from this link: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/273966007672

Having done the swap, the error still arises pretty much straight away (as it was before).

Note that the fan does work and kicks in straight away (presumably because the car things the engine is overheating).

Is there something else I need to do, or is the part perhaps not compatible?

The car is a C4 Grand Picasso Petrol 1.6 2010.

Cheers!

As you are a current donor, just ask for the correct part in the main official parts thread here for future reference:

That part may not be correct and in any case is probably a cheap copy. Never use cheap sensors is the moto as they are invariably more trouble than it is worth.

The correct part is: 9810048680 , £62.69 from Citroen inc. VAT, but you now have the correct part number if you want aftermarket. Just don't buy too cheap or you get what you pay for.
Please note, I'm no longer active on the Forum, so won't respond to messages.

Thanks for the quick and comprehensive reply. Assuming I want to get it cheaper that £63, any website and/or model of part you could recommend?

Just copy and paste the part number into your favourite search engine, loads of sites available
