C5 X7 Loss of power and engine repair warning light

Unread post by Jedders »

Hi
The other day I was accelerating up hill and suddenly lost power at around 3200 rpm. This was accompanied by the Engine Repair light and audio alarm. The light did not stay on as the revs dropped. When I got home there were no error codes relating to this incident. It has happened a couple of times before but I cannot replicate it. Any ideas?

There will likely be a fault code stored, but your reader may not be able to read all the constructor codes if it is a basic generic OBDII reader. You ideally need Diagbox to retrieve the faults.

What I'm trying to say is that a fault that triggers the EML will very likely trigger a fault code which can be retrieved from the fault logs even if it is a temporary fault and no longer showing. I can't speak for Autel's capabilities though sorry.

How old is this car? How many miles has it done? Warranty repair from whom? Is it a Citroen dealer or what?

The car was registered 2012. New clutch, bearing and flywheel fitted a few weeks ago by local mechanic. Excess vibration around 2500rpm identified by him as flywheel issue. So he's replacing it under warranty

So having read the manual on the diagnostics I found the following codes
P2566, P2562, P1496, P11AA, P1497.
There is a brief description
P2566 Turbo position copy signal blocked when engine switched off.
P2562 Turbo copy signal difference between setting and position exceeding min or max limit.
The other codes ,
Refer to vehicle service manual.
All of them are referred to as temporary faults.

A failing turbo will definitely give you a loss of power but would normally fail without any pre warning in my experience. But still worth a look at. I had a van turbo fail on me, accelerated beautifully until the turbo kicked in and then went into I don't want to do anything mode, then would accelerate again until turbo kicked in.
