Citroen Xantia difficult start

Post by August »

Hello! My 1999 citroen xantia 1.8 16v developed a difficulty starting.

it oftenly, (but not always) takes a long time to start. You can feel it trying to catch, but doesn't start completely and when it does start, it struggles to hold and idle for few seconds and oftenly dies (especially when cold).

I'm suspecting bad fuel injectors, because car has lpg and they are reraly used (only on start ups)

But could it be a sensor or so?

It is likely to be a problem with the idle control valve. They are known to get gummed upon the TU engines, but even when cleaned, they often don't work reliably (maybe they just wear out).

The first thing to try is disconnect the battery for a few minutes, this causes the ECU to re-initialise the idle parameters, and I have known it to fix case of hard starting and stalling when cold.

This is a xu7jp4 engine.. It has a new idle control valve, also a new map sensor.
