Hi guys,
My ds5 is having major faults due to the braking system. Having already read some of the topics from here I still have had no joy.
So I have all braking system lights on dash. This car is a push button start stop which is not working unless u hold in for 10 secs to start it up and stop it hand brake won't stay on and car is in limp mode so stuck in 3rd gear. Snow light flashing etc major gear box fault comes up as well as the major brake fault. On reader it states a/c pressure fault also vdc fault and a intercom fault. The codes are U1113
U0122
U1218
This is on a obd reader. Car has been also read on a garage computer and that said abs sensor fault but wouldn't tell them which one all sensors brakes checked all are fine. Brake switch has been replaced today that didn't work new battery fitted that didn't work I've tried all options including disconnect the battery to reset ecu that hasn't worked same codes can't Clear these codes till fault has been resolved. One option I've not tired is maybe it's a sticky electric hand break mechanism motor which I'm gonna look at tomorrow . Any help on this I would greatly receive. Thanks in advance

Re: Ds5 hdi major braking fault
Hi guys just to add, this has now been taken to a garage but not main dealer. And they had 75 fault codes coming up. So they think its ecu they can't erase codes it's gonna have to be main dealer I think.

Re: Ds5 hdi major braking fault
They won't be able to erase fault codes if they can't connect to the ECU! Those codes all relate to communications faults on the data network. As you can see the Engine ECU is returned as the culprit in all these cases. This can also happen if the Engine ECU software has been attempted to be written to and failed as a result of a software update / tune or modification etc. At least you have something to go on to investigate further.
| Fault Code: | U0122 |
| Description of Fault: | Intersystem CAN network : Loss of communication with the ECU ABS/ESP. Communication fault between ECUs detected for 3 secs. Conditions of activation of the diagnostics: At least one of the following conditions must be fulfilled: - Engine running - Ignition on |
| Conditions for Fault to clear: | Driving with the engine hot for 5 minutes |
| Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active: |

| Suspect Areas: | Engine ECU |
| Fault Code: | U1218 |
| Description of Fault: | Intersystem CAN network : One of the parameters present in a frame emitted by the BSI is invalid. Communication fault between ECUs detected for 3 secs. Re: Ds5 hdi major braking fault
Hi thanks for your response,
I have spoken to an ecu specialist regarding codes and issues they are not 100% sure it's an ecu problem they belive I have a bad wore somewhere on my car. I think it could be brake sensors. But no idea where to start. Possibly wore harness corroded in have a mechanic looking at this tomorrow to see if we can find out qhere the problem is. The car did have a yellow abs light come on and was on for about a month It's my wifes car and we didn't know why it came on but because we left it to late to fix its now in limp and stuck in first gear due to being an automatic. Car won't start unless you hold down the push button and handbrake won't hold due to being electrical. But it's intermittent.

Re: Ds5 hdi major braking fault
These faults won't be caused by an ABS sensor. If it was one of the sensors, a diagnostic would show you which sensor it was having a problem with.
So I would be looking to the engine ECU wiring connectors and making sure these are not corroded or loose / damaged. I'd also be checking around that area especially the engine fuse box and ensuring there's no burning or water damage too.

Re: Ds5 hdi major braking fault
Hi guys, so I have now found out the cause of my problems it's been tested at main dealers today, and they found that the abs control unit is faulty and needs to be replaced with a cost of 2k so my only other cheaper option is to have this unit refurbished any body had this done? What was the outcome. New control unit is on back order and wouldn't be able to have it programmed by any other garage we have been told. Is this true or can a new one be fitted and reprogrammed by another person??

Re: Ds5 hdi major braking fault
The ABS / ESP ECU will need to be programmed by somebody who has access to a dealer level diagnostic tool like Diagbox. It should be able to be configured according to your vehicle without too much issue as yours is a 2013, so Diagbox V7.58 should be able to do it, but no guarantees as the quality of the clone VCIs varies considerably.
