Hi all.
The thread title refers to my MOT failure, front Hydra shock.
I disagree (confident!) with its LDS fluid leak, so I cleaned the strut and drive/operate suspension to look for leaks, none.
And so be ready for a second opinion MOT at another test site.
But I've been advised that part is now too clean! Not enough use of the suspension. So will have to wait a bit longer for another test.
Will be okay to wait beyond the 10 days of original test?
2nd full MOT, car too clean.

If you don't have an MOT and use the car then that's illegal, not sure how things stand with failure notices, one train if thought is a failure is a failure, only drive to the repairer or MOT station, whereas another thought is the grade of failure, minor or dangerous. And its old MOT is still valid. Would I take a chance... Hmm

Tip. Make the strut dirty, spay with water and throw fine dirt / dust at it!

That really shouldn't be necessary - can anyone show me the rules regarding failure of an MOT because a section is too clean? If it was me and there were no leaks, I would get it challenged and I'm sure they would reverse the decision. They can only inspect what is in front of them at the time. As long as it has no faults at the time of inspection, then IMO that's BS and they can't fail it.
Please note, I'm no longer active on the Forum, so won't respond to messages.

So if I fit a new part I have to dirty it up to pass an MOT

A very clean part may arouse suspicions but that is no reason for a fail. If it isn't leaking then it is a pass.GiveMeABreak wrote: 13 Jul 2022, 12:02 That really shouldn't be necessary - can anyone show me the rules regarding failure of an MOT because a section is too clean? He did wipe it down and put it back in 30 seconds later... I'm assuming! If so, genius!!

Yes I ask the stupid questions, because normally it is that simple.

Re: 2nd full MOT, car too clean.
So, the advice came from a used car dealer and I've still yet to make a 2nd MOT.
Am sure that a 2nd tester would like to see the 'leak' the 1st tester failed, just for reference.
But am off to an indy garage today that''s rated highly.
Will ask fella to just examine the shock and then an MOT if he thinks worth it.

Here's the section to 5.3.5. of the MOT inspection manual pertaining to Gas, air and fluid suspension I think 5.3.5 is the most relevant, but have a gander at the suspension section, see if you find anything, I know I couldn't find anything for failing parts for being too cleanGiveMeABreak wrote: 13 Jul 2022, 12:02 That really shouldn't be necessary - can anyone show me the rules regarding failure of an MOT because a section is too clean? Re: 2nd full MOT, car too clean.
PS, those are your only fails for fluid suspension, anything else would be an advisory 5.3.5(c) evidence of light misting but no visible leak at O/S/R shock absorber or similar wording should have been your advisory.
