Gearbox Communication Error

Unread post by Doo »

Ok, this is a really stupid question and I have a feeling I'm going to regret asking, but... Would Johnny Foreigner  have been so sneaky as to wire the gearbox Communication system through the headlamps??

BSI errors all pertaining to lighting not working... That's because its not connected. The headlamps are still in the boot :-D

But I'm getting Gearbox Communication Error on diag box. I've gone to repair and fault checking, both report same after global test. I've removed the solenoid ecu and cleaned out the grease, so those plugs are clean. I've checked every plug socket and connection. Cleaned earth's and the battery is on a smart charger for the long job ahead... Except, if there's no comms, there's no long job

I removed the plug for the (new) release bearing and cleaned it (it was a little oily, but not badly so) and checked all the other connections I can see/reach. To no avail.

Everything was working when I put the car for the engine out job, so something is amiss at refit, but I can't think what?!

Comms with everything else is fine. So am I looking at a broken wire, or something sinister like the new release bearing is not compatible 8-[

Or is there a certain procedure you have to complete before it'll speak to the diag?

Thanks. Doo.

It is not unknown for one real problem to generate a phantom one (especially where PSA vehicles are concerned).

Yeah! The BSI is not a happy bunny

Tomorrow, I shall plug the headlamps & foglamps in to see if that gets it out of the doldrums :?

You're "NOT" going to believe this... I connected the headlamps and foglamp bulbs (unplugged from the bumper as its still off), Turned the ign on and saw the "foot on brake pedal" lamp which indicates the gearbox is now found!

Did a quick Diag Box fault find and gearbox, 0 faults.

Tried turning the engine over and she's turning, no start. Expected that, but it's getting fuel:

Coolant temp 21°C (ambient)
Fuel temperature 22°C
Fuel flow regulator OCR 13%.

Injector control error status - No fault

Measured injected flow - 26.28 mm3/s

Reference pressure 306 bars
Measured fuel pressure - 16 bars

So not enough fuel pressure... Possible airlock.

Once the engine is running, I'll have to pressurise the gearbox and I forgot the procedure

Time to play with the computer, unless someone tells me to go to.... Maintenance? Repair? And so on.

Thank you all for watching :-D

:-D

I wonder if this is a deliberate act to prevent drunk drivers restarting the car after a prang taking out the headlamps :rofl2:

I've NEVER came across this! I bought my Jaguar XK8 smashed at the front. No lights, bumper, etc and I got it started (after a bit of repair)...

I wonder if the ECUs run though a 'checklist' too see whether everything that should be there actually is there? If an item that is high in the order (if not actually important) is missing the ECUs have a hissy fit ('no headlights, no sidelights, no indicators, what is the point of doing this?' sort of thing!).
