Citroen Relay ECU fail

Unread post by dumbbintd4ve »

I have a 58 plate Citroen Relay. Started life with the fire service (good service history), my mate bought it after a repaired collision, and so it came to me

Approx 5 years ago I got the ECU remapped, better MPG and performance, money well spent........

During lockdown it began throwing up a myriad of spurious faults- not unlocking with the fob, loss of power, churning over and over to start, and more. I cleaned the earth terminal to the chassis which solved the power problem, but other random crap kept happening until eventually (despite a new battery) it just wouldn't start

Bit the bullet and took it to my garage who told me the remap tit 'sealed' the ECU with 3 bands of insulation tape, and the problem was water damage. Some will say 'durr', justifiably so, but I do my job and its's not mechanics. Aaaanyhoo, bought a recovery kit second hand, and it showed injector fault. sent away for analysis, came back no problems shown

Garage still can't make it work and they're telling me it's a scrapper, which is awful coz it's a really good van

On my last visit to the garage, I noticed in the recovery box a set of dashboard clocks which haven't been fitted. this begs the question 'Why were they included and not been fitted?' Is this something they should try?

Problem is they're busy AF and can't be bothered with the headache that they're not best experienced in, and if I have to go to dealers they'll obviously take my eyes out to fix

It's a Visteon ECU, part numbers of original and replacement not to hand, but can supply if required

Any advice will be greatly appreciated

What is a recovery box & recovery kit??

On some vehicles (VAG, Vauxhall & Ford of the top of my head) the instrument panel is coded to the car as part of the immobiliser system. On your van its not. When breakers sell ECU kits they often sell it with the instrument panel as they may not know if its coded or not. You will often see Citroen/Peugeot ECU kits being sold with the under bonnet fusebox and the transponder pickup ring but they are not needed on these vehicles.

Sorry for not being clear, this is not my area of expertise. The recovery kit is the ECU kit, and the box is just the box it got sent in

Do you know exactly what needs to be changed ?. When I talk to my mechanic he has changed the under bonnet fuse box, and it also has the key that came with the ECU kit operating the doors (from the buttons, the key blade is obviously different) which would indicate the transponder has been changed which you say is unnecessary

Also, after the ECU has been sent away and is proved to be OK, when it's fitted to my van and shows an injector fault why aren't they thinking it may be a faulty injector

Thanks for your advice

The under bonnet fusebox is not matched on this vehicle either. The engine ECU, the BSI (located behind the cover by your right knee) and the transponder chip are all matched together.
You can just swap your keyblade into the ‘new’ remote. Note i said the transponder pickup ring is not coded, the actual transponder chip in the key is coded to the BSI.
