I often watch my TV with the sound off, can't abide sports commentators rabbitng on, also dumb off the adverts.
So does it use less electricity to have the TV on without the sound?

I suppose on a molecular level, yes. There will be less energy used as the voice coil of the loudspeaker won't be moving. But on any measurable scale I doubt it.

If your trying to save electricity, turning the picture off as well will help!

Re: A silly slot maybe.
I dread to think what my TV consumes, just as well I rarely use it.
With it on I can turn the heating off in winter and have to have the windows open in summer.
Same with the stereo and I pipe the TV sound through it. Wandered off and left it on a couple of days ago, remembered last night to turn it off. It uses more electricity when it is doing nothing that when it it running, same with the (valve) CD player. Around a kilowatt between them.

Not trying to save electricity really, it was just a thought that occurred to me.
I'd leave the sound on if they'd just let us have the atmosphere, the roar of the F1 engines and the sound of the crowd without the has-been sportsmen talking on and on through the whole show.

I don't watch racing, or any sport, but more often than not have the sound off to exclude the silly wafflers, especially American ones. Can't tolerate the accents and pronunciation.

Yes I ask the stupid questions, because normally it is that simple.

Yes, but only if you have a "Sky-blue-pink" button it sits to the left of the red, green, yellow or blue buttons.Rp0thejester wrote: ↑29 Jun 2022, 19:54 Wimbledon has started, can I turn off the commentators voice whilst the lady's are playing??
