Video of Citroen C4 Grand Picasso 2010 Diesel Engine Noise

Post by Grand-Picasso-2010 »

Hi

I have a Citroen C4 Grand Picasso 2010 Diesel

It is making a strange noise when accelerating or revving the engine, there is no fault lights and apart from the noise the car appears to working fine.

Please watch this 30 second Youtube video from the link below I made of the car engine noise and please provide your opinion on what the cause of noise could be

Thanks your help is much appreciated

Have the pulleys and tensioners checked for the timing belt and alternator belt. If they are worn and weren’t changed when the timing belt was done this can cause all sorts of noises.

I have been reading a few things online and I have heard the diesel fuel injectors might also be causing this

Do you think this could also be a possibility?

Noises are very difficult to link to a problem - for example it can be something as simple as the increased vibration rattling one of the exhaust heat shields - these are notorious for coming loose and causing metallic-like noises, especially with increased engine revs. So without further investigation it is not going to be easy to determine. You may get some better idea if you carefully observe and listen in the engine bay when somebody is revving the vehicle to see if you can localise the noise or eliminate something.

If the diesel injectors / clamps were loose, I would expect to see signs of oil at the injectors or some smoke from burning oil.

Very metallic noise, If it was a tool at work I'd say a bearing has gone giving that metallic rough/inconsistent rough noise, just my opinion though.

Doesn't sound like injector noise, combustion sounds quiet, I would suspect something like an aux belt idler or tensioner or even an alternator bearing or water pump. Take the belt off and run it, that will eliminate a number of things. If it still does it I would move on to the cam belt idler/tensioner/water pump.

Hi Everyone

After further investigation and also getting everyone's advice on this forum

I have decided the best cause of action is to start with replacing the Timing belt and tensioner, i will also consider replacing the water pump and if this does not fix the problem i will investigate further.

I have also heard the the other possible cause maybe the Cam Chain, so if a new Timing belt and tensioner and water pump don't fix the problem the other possible cause maybe the Cam Chain

has anyone heard of any issues with the Cam Chain on this type of engine?

Thanks
