2015 DS5 Hybrid4x4 - AdBlue tank location?

Post by Crystalyne »

Hey all,

My DS5 has decided to *ahem* break down with a P1434 code.

I've already got it booked into the Citroen garage next week, but I wanted to do a sanity check and find out if the tank even has any AdBlue in it - I'm aware that the computer's reading of the tank level is just an approximation so I'm wondering if the tank is empty and that's what's causing the code (for reference, the car still starts and drives).

My only issue is that I have absolutely no clue where the AdBlue filler neck is, as the only documentation I've found for the DS5 is for the non-Hybrid model where the filler is under a rubber cap in the boot.

Help!

Thanks!

You don't have an SCR system on this vehicle. So no Adblue.

That code is for the multiplexed additive pump that is used for the Diesel Particulate Filter petrol tank dosing (that you do have). Details for the fault below:
Fault Code: P1434
Description of Fault: Multiplexed additive pump: Additive pump fault. Fault on the particle filter additive system detected for 6s.
Conditions of activation of the diagnostics: Engine running.
Conditions for Fault to clear: The following conditions have to be met:
  • Addition of 10 litres of fuel
  • Driving with the engine hot for 5 minutes
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active: Deactivation of the request for regeneration of the particle filter from the diagnostic tool:
  • Lighting of the service warning lamp
  • Limitation of performance
Symptoms: Lack of power
Suspect Areas:
  • Additive pump
  • Connector
  • Electrical harness
  • Soft pouch / Particle filter additive reservoir

Hmm, annoyingly the fault came on just after I put a full tank of diesel in the car so I can't actually meet those conditions!

Oh well. It's going into the garage next week, hopefully they can sort it out (even if it does mean siphoning the diesel out of it!).

Thank you!

It would indicate to me that the additive pump may not be dosing the fuel tank for one or more reasons - possibly if it is damaged or faulty and has triggered the message after it determined that you added fuel recently and couldn't operate.

This being the case, I don't think adding any more fuel in will help as you have already done this.

Sigh.

Any idea of what I might expect the damage to be if the pump has to be replaced?

Yours is a bit of a tricky one as it's a 6.1 Euro Emission standard, and you have a Hybrid system. The additive tank is not shown under your VIN for this Euro Level as a part, so I would get it confirmed, professionally with Citroen. The pumps are in short supply from what I can tell, but others who have had this code have cured it with a replacement additive unit at about £300. But as always I would get the diagnosis confirmed, so you can rule out an electrical issue.

Could it just be as simple as an empty Eolys bag? I'm awaiting a message on my two Citroens, which I understand will be at around 80k miles. Is this your sort of mileage?

About 110,000 miles - It's possible it's empty, but I don't know where the bag is located or how to refill it. I guess it's possible that it outlived the 80k mark being a Hybrid model.

ECU doesn't seem to think it's empty, but I've heard that the reading is just an estimate, and the bag level isn't actually monitored.

This should have a reservoir not a bag, but yes, there is usually a warning regarding low additive level. It is not physically measured, so relies on checks and when topped up with the appropriate quantity that the engine ECU is also advised at the same time.

So, got my car back from the garage today.

Turns out the car only needed an Eolys top-up, the pump was working correctly but didn't have any fluid to work with!

Citroen ordered in part #9736A1 and did the top up, and car is back on the road with no issues.

Great - at least you know now that is has been topped up and that the engine ECU has been reset properly, so next time it gets low it should flag the message.
