Citroen C2 just purchased.

Post by Forrester123 »

Don't see much on small Citroens on the forum, why's that?
Just bought an 06 C2 for my partner [who is 79] & wanted a small car for local runs.
It's the base 1100 model but still is reasonably equipped & is one :-D [ 83 old ] owner. The best bit is that has only done 30k with 13 main dealer service stamps!!! As the tyres were the original fitted, had to buy 4 new ones & there are a few scrapes to fix. Paid top whack but very happy with purchase :-D

The Citroen C2 and C3 shared the same platform (along with some Peugeots).
The C2 was supposed to be a replacement for the old Saxo but it never caught the "boy racer" imagination like the Saxo did. It did well in the JWRC rally competitions and was a popular rally platform.
The GT version of the C2 was marketed for homologation of the platform for rally purposes. But the C2 wasn't that practical for the "average" car buyer. Practical only as a second car or for a 'single' person.
The C3 did much better in the sales area and was quite popular. Buyers found it more practical for a family or (slightly) larger second car (than the C2) and the C3s' appointments and ride were more comfortable than the C2.
By comparison to the C3, Citroen did very little marketing for the C2. Also, Citroen virtually had a car for every taste, slicing up the market even further. Arguably the C4 commercial, at the time, broke advertising as it was known and went viral before the term was invented! Raising Citroen's profile immensely but pushing most other Citroen models' into the background!
The C2 did get a segment on the old Top Gear show. You can find that segment on Youtube.
Fifth Gear did a comparison of the C2 against a small ford (don't remember which one) and they preferred the Ford. Again that's on Youtube too.
If you look at the car market these days you might note that the average "car" is getting bigger and bigger despite the rising fuel costs!! Look at the current C3 verses the original. While the engine sizes are getting smaller, for fuel economy reasons, that's not true for all cars in the market. And a small engine in a big car is not a good combination (IMHO).

Certainly a better car than the previous Ford KA we had to scrap due to corrosion issues.
It even has cruise control though that won't be used much! Rides well, but a bit of steering torque
on the FWD.
