Would someone mind posting, please, whatever temperature sensors control the engine cooling fan on a C6, 3.0 petrol? Plus, where it is located?
Mine warned me it was rather hot today when idling and I noticed that the fan(s?) weren’t running.
VIN VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
also any chance of the build sheet on this? I’d like to know when it actually left the production line.
Is it like older cars where there is a dedicated fan temperature sensor? Or, does it just use the engine temperature sensor? I hope not the latter because the screen and dashboard were telling me it was too hot but the fan was not running.
I had similar last year but the fans were confirmed working at the garage.
Many thanks

Re: C6 Cooling
James - I've moved these queries out of parts requests and into a separate thread as you have several queries and at this stage are not part number requests.
The C6 has a build date of 4th November 2005.
1) Cooling Fan Relay:
2) Thermostat
3) Water Temperature Sensor

Re: C6 Cooling
Thanks for moving this to a thread on its own. It started as a part number question then I guess my brain got carried away!
Got the Diagbox on it today (second time ever and I’m not that savvy so bear with me!)
I have code P0480 Fan (GMV1) high speed relay or chopper control.
I poked a stick through the grille and the fan is not seized.
I asked Diagbox to switch the fan on and it would not run (it asked me to listen/check). There was no click or fan running.
Maybe a new relay is in order? What is the part number of Item 75 please?

Re: C6 Cooling
Ok, so the relay (50A) has a replacement part, number: 6545XF. Cost £25.62 direct from Citroen VAT Inc James.

Re: C6 Cooling
Great, thanks for this.
I wonder if I have to take the bumper off to access this? Hopefully all can be done from above. Will report back.

Couldn't tell you on this James - but not a lot of space I suspect.

Re: C6 Cooling
Hmm, I was expecting to find this under the fuse box but found a few chopped wires with some black insulation tape roof them. This may be original and as built but I’m now confused— especially as when I asked the garage about this last time they said that the Lexia could operate the fans fine. I’ve asked the other guy I know with a petrol C6 to look at his.
Is there a Citroen manual procedure for changing the cooling fan relay which would reveal where it is?
I bought the relay suggested, just need to know where to plug it in!

Re: C6 Cooling
Relay is plugged in to the wiring that comes off the fan itself. The bumper had to come off to access all of this. If it was better designed, the top panel should have came off to allow easy access to the radiator gap.
The relay that I ordered from Citroen (6545XF) did not fit my original fan— original fan has circular plug, replacement relay is a square plug.
However, that is irrelevant as I tested the relay and it works fine. The fan, although not seized, is toast and does not turn when given 12V.
Therefore, please could I have the part number of the fan, item 1, please?

Re: C6 Cooling
Is it 4 wires all cut at the same length? if so the may be spare repair wires, C5's & a few other Citroens have them but couldn't say for sure about the C6. If it is them you will find the other end of then somewher behind the BSI inside the car.jamescarruthers wrote: 24 May 2022, 14:58 Hmm, I was expecting to find this under the fuse box but found a few chopped wires with some black insulation tape roof them. Do you have a pic of the cut wires?

Re: C6 Cooling
New fan ordered from AUTODOC… wish me luck as I’ve heard they are slow to import to the UK now! The price was too good (half of Mister Auto for the same TWC part) to resist!
Looks like early (original) fan assy. uses the round relay plug and the later one uses the square relay plug.
