2014 5008 DAB radio upgrade

Post by paddypaws77 »

Hi! Can anyone shed any light on how I could put DAB radio into my 2014 5008? It has in it a RNEG2010 system.
I was under the understanding that it was an option on this car so can I retrofit it? Cost?
Thanks.

No that's not the case. It is just that there were several hardware versions of RT6 fitted over the production cycle, depending on Vehicle, Build date, Country and Trim. Models without DAB functionality cannot be 'upgraded' or retrofitted' with it. It would need a different Head Unit with the built in hardware and the relevant DAB antenna to be retro-wired to the system.

You'd be better off using a smaller aftermarket DAB unit with separate windscreen aerial and linking that to the Head unit. There are several options for this including the smaller cigarette lighter plug in DAB units that link to the head unit via an FM frequency and outputs the sound that way, or there may be other suitable aftermarket options.

I used an FM one on my Previous C5 X7 that worked ok.

I did a write up with pics here:

This one works via USB, and is compatible with RT6 on a MK I 508. It transfers the output via USB as if it were MP3 music files:

Thanks!
Yes, I have been looking at the Dension one.
Are the FM ones a bit cheaper or similar price?

The one I installed as the title of my thread states "C5 X7 Installing DAB Radio for under £25" was under £25 at the time. The cheaper FM one that I installed can be a bit iffy on the reception, but for the price and minimal install it was worth a go.

The Dension one is obviously a lot more, so I would hope a bit better unit, but like all these the aerial and your location is very much key to success. My area is a bit naff for DAB anyway and some stations keep cutting in and out and that's even with with built in factory-fitted Digital Connected Nav system. So I suppose if you don't use your USB port for MP3 files and only updating the system occasionally, then that may be the option to go for.

Thanks.
I couldn't follow the link you posted as it tells me I am not authorised to see it!
My other question would be, with the Dension unit, if I did want to listen to music from a USB stick, could I not just unplug the Dension unit USB and plug the USB stick in? I know they sell USB pass through units but by the time you have finished fiddling with the switch it is probably just as easy to unplug the Dension and plug in a USB.

Yes, sorry abut that, I remember now that it's in the donating members' resources section.

Back to your question, yes, just unplug the USB and pop in your music USB. The Head unit will read it as normal.
