Peugeot 308 1.4VTi Will a 1.6VTi drop straight in ?
Hi All, I have been having some issues with Variable valve lift on my 1.4Vti 2010 vintage. ( Long winded previous thread ) During my t/shooting its become obvious the cam bearings are badly scored and the engine had been run low on oil / overheated at some stage . It also was a heavy oil user. I`ve decided its not worth fixing and dropping in a replacement engine is the way to go . During previous issues I discovered the 1.4Vti and 1.6Vti have the same part number ECU. I might go for a 1.6Vti engine for that little extra power. The 1.4 was a bit underpowered. Will it drop straight in ? ...............regards........dannyboy.

You may have problems with driveshafts not fitting the gear box but that can be sorted along with hubs and so on.
Husky.
Thinking outside of the box is better than sitting in a dark one.

Although the ECUs have the same part number, it may not be possible to reconfigure to a different engine type without without having the ECU re-virginised by a specialist. Also if keeping your gearbox, check that the ratios are the same as for a 1.6. Similarly, take a good for differences in engine ancillaries and pollution control systems that could trip you up.

Re: Peugeot 308 1.4VTi Will a 1.6VTi drop straight in ?
Hi, I`ve located a 1.4Vti engine from a Citroen C3 2011. The breaker tells me its a KFT code so not the same code as my engine EP3 / 8FS. ( From a 2010 308 ) He says his research says its not a match, and he has researched the head , the block and the injectors ? . I am hopeful it can be used. These 1.4Vti engines are hard to get. He says the ECU has been sold from that C3. Can this engine be used in my 1.4Vti 308 2010 ?....will it work with my ECU ? ( Fit my injectors ? ) or with a compatible virginised C3 ECU ? Any advice appreciated.

I`ve found out the KFT code is the older single cam belt driven engine type so not compatible.

Re: Peugeot 308 1.4VTi Will a 1.6VTi drop straight in ?
I`ve located a 1.6Vti engine ( non turbo ) from a Citroen DS3 2011. I havent received the engine code or price yet. But it looks like its the standard 1.6Vti engine ( EP6 ) . There doesn`t seem to be any 1.4Vti engines out there, they don`t seem to last and replacements are snapped up. Nobody can confirm to me the 1.6 Vti engine will fit in lieu of the 1.4Vti or what issues I`m likely to encounter. It looks like it hasn`t been done before ? I would have thought somebody out there has tried it . Previous answers in this post are of a positive nature so i`m tempted to take a chance. I would be using my own gearbox / driveshafts. I have two ECU`s for my 1.4Vti, one of which is virginised so hopefully that won`t be an issue. I`expect the injectors are different for the 1.6 but I would want to get them with the engine . Do injectors need to be coded to the ECU ? Any more info appreciated. ......regards.....dannyboy.
