Xsara picasso tick over issue

Unread post by Huskyxantia »

My old 03 plate 2.0hdi has developed an issue with the tick over/idle, it will almost die/stall and flicking the gas pedal clears it, im wondering if theres an idle control valve playing up

Any ideas,

Its had a new mas air flow sensor as full rev range was being lost.
Thanks in advance.

Where did the MAF come from? A lot of the cheap ones are gash... No idle control valve on these, although some later versions of the 2.0 HDi had a butterfly valve in the air intake.

It's more often known as a crankshaft position sensor, and yours is located towards the front of the engine, where the gearbox and engine meet.

Think this could be it, as some time when starting it will not catch , ive had the car now on its 3rd yr and starting it taking a little longer, so crankshaft position sensor is known to do that , gotta get me a new one i guess, thinking back to last November my code reader did pick up on this but as it was running i ignored it .... silly me i guess.

This morning ive removed the camshaft sensor & crankshaft sensor for multimeter testing results as follows just incase anyone might stumble upon this for reference

Meter set 2k ohms
Crank sensor 464
Cam sensor 772

Thoughts ?

Surely the readings should be 800 or more ?

So using the car just for a test it ran ok for about 3 miles then pulling to a junction engine went lumpy like it was going to stall.

Got back home unplugged the maf it ran normal ..... 30 seconds later lumpy almost wanting to stall , however there is a sort of high pitch whistle not very loud but sounds like its being sucked instead of blown , my new crank and cam shaft sensors will be with me wednesday so ill see what that does, tomorrow I'm going to check the fuel filter the filter was changed 4 months ago so should be ok but i wont know till i check.

It won't be the cam sensor as this is only used at start up to check cam/crank are in synch. If this is Siemens injection, there's no lift pump so if it's pulling a vac on the tank it could upset things.

Open the fuel filler when it's playing up and see if it sucks in, and if it improves with the cap open.

Would this mean anything , there's been a few times the cap has been hard to take off like its glued then after a couple of tugs its come off, still with about a quarter of a tank too.

Happened about a week ago filling up at esso garage

That suggests the fuel tank breather is blocked.

Ok, would that be one of the pipes next to the filler kneck ?
Would road muck be the cause ?
