Xantia X2 Radiator fan relay help

Unread post by Nick Orfanidis »

Hello from Greece!
I need a help if someone knows.
I want to put two LEDs to the dashboard to see when the radiator fan turns on and to which speed scale it works.
The problem is that the circuit of the fans is with relays and it's a little bit complicated. Does anyone know in which relay and in which pin can I take the +12v for every fan speed scale? All I need is one 12v for the low speed fan and one for the high speed fan.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Here is a diagram I made up years ago when similarly baffled by the official circuit diagram. The logic table at the lower right shows how the fans are controlled. It you buy 12V LEDS (with built in ballast) you can probably connect them from 12 volts to the relay signals, but I dont remember where you can easily get wiring access.

Sorry it`s a tif file. Let me know is you need a jpg.

Thank very much. It was usefull, but if anyone knows the specific pin for each speed scale , I would appreciate it. I just want 2 12v pinouts, one for each fan speed. I'll connect one LED at each of them, with resistor for 12v. The low speed scale will have the orange LED and the high speed scale will have a red LED.

Looking at Haynes Manual, on the Mk 2 Xantia the relays are controlled by unit 8010 (Refrigeration and cooling temp control unit). Therefore, on my diagram the right/centre relay is controlled by pin 10 (wire 8091) and the left relay by pin 1 (wire 809). Pin 4 (wire 814C) is the 12 volts for the relays.

Someone should know where 8010 is located. The wires are usually printed with the number. Using these signals of course, one led would light for slow, then both for fast, but that should suitable.

Do the 8091 and 809 cables give 12v signal? I mean, can I take from there the signal for every fan speed directly to the LEDs? If , I don't need to take signal from 814C...

I took the information from an old Haynes manual, it is a few years since I had a Xantia. Here is a quick circuit diagram of what I think you should wire up, no guarantee. The signals on the 8091 and 809 wires appear to be a connection to zero volts to make the relay operate and to turn on the fan. The 814C wire is +12 volts for the 8010 unit, and seems suitable as a feed for the resistor/LEDs. Choose the resistor value to get the LEDs bright enough, perhaps 470 ohms 1/2 watt. Alternative to a 12 volt supply would be the dash dimmable supply so that LEDs are not too bright at night, but that is getting complicated.

So, if I connect the + of the Led/resistor to the 8091 and another one + from another led resistor to the 809, and the two (-) of the leds to the ground , I should get a light for the first fan speed and two lights for the second fan speed. Right?
