C8 Webasto. Can I turn it off?
Is there a way of turning the underfloor webasto off on my 2004 C8 or do I have to put up with it scaring the neighbours when I shunt the car around without going anywhere?

As you can see Pete, the additional heating system is quite integrated and there is nothing I can find immediately to suggest how this would be simply switched off. I'm surprised it was actually available here to be honest as this is usually an option for colder climates like Norway and Sweden.
Please note, I'm no longer active on the Forum, so won't respond to messages.

Seems strange to me also especially as it trips on at temperatures which are certainly not below freezing point. I will search for the control lead and unplug it, see whether it upsets the ECUGiveMeABreak wrote: 05 Mar 2022, 22:49 As you can see Pete, the additional heating system is quite integrated and there is nothing I can find immediately to suggest how this would be simply switched off. Re: C8 Webasto. Can I turn it off?
As far as I know all diesel UK spec C8's had a Webasto as standard.
Yes you could just unplug it, if doing this i would make sure you seal up all the connections on both the harness & the unit itself as i imagine they would rot pretty quickly due to being located underneath the car.
Other options are you could un program it if you have access to Lexia or Diagbox, If i remember right this is done in the injection ECU menu also. Option2 would be to remove maxi fuse 3 that is located underneath the under bonnet fusebox.

Re: C8 Webasto. Can I turn it off?
The reason for fitting a Webasto to the C8 is that the HDi engine is so efficient that it doesn’t ‘waste’ so much of its heat. Thus the engine and heater can take quite some time to heat up, even at outside temperatures at up to 10 degrees (IIRC the cut off point for the Webasto).
What makes it so relevant to the C8 is that with the sheer empty volume inside the car any heat coming out of the heater soon disperses. Of course, every bit of heat going into the heater matrix is a bit less going into the engine to get it up to a good operating temperature.
I bought a kit from these people ( https://www.cum-cartec-shop.de/ ) that allows you to turn on the Webasto by remote control AND also allows you to turn it off completely if you want.

Thanks for the info, thought I had (as normal) bought the only specimen!!wheeler wrote: 06 Mar 2022, 08:41 As far as I know all diesel UK spec C8's had a Webasto as standard.

Its mainly a nuisance just at the moment, while I am shunting the car back and forward to work on it. Would removing maxi fuse 3 affect anything else?

Thanks for the "food-for-thought"" regarding the air space in the car!jml wrote: 06 Mar 2022, 09:43 The reason for fitting a Webasto to the C8 is that the HDi engine is so efficient that it doesn’t ‘waste’ so much of its heat. I might just pass on the programmable control unit, don't think I could justify that sort of price! Again, thanks for the link, though.

No idea, only one way to find out
Not sure if anything else is listed on that fuse.
