Here goes...

Hi I'm not sure if anyone can help but I have got a 2009 C4 Picasso 5 Vtr+ Hdi Egs.
I made a long trip and drove perfectly all the way there, on the way back I pulled in to the side of a country road (the surface was bumpy and I did a bit hastily) to take a call, when I started it back up I got esp/asr fault. Handbrake fault. Depollution fault.

I'm not sure if I did something wrong but seems odd it happened then.

And since, it doesnt speed up at all, and my auto handbrake wont work. The handbrake button still works manually.
I have it booked into a citroen garage but they can only see it in 2 weeks. I am reluctant to send it anywhere else because last time I did I went round the houses spent hundreds and it was just a faulty wire in the end.
Does anyone know what this could be?
Apologies, I'm a real novice on cars and no nothing about them.
On the warnings on the menu is says
Esp/asr system faulty
Handbrake system faulty
Depollution system faulty

How many times since then have you stopped the engine and then restarted?

If you braked sharpish and skidded to a halt then you may have activated the ESP/ASR to avoid a skid. This could have been logged as a temporary fault and you may need around half a dozen engine restarts to turn the ESP/ASR light off.

Handbrake fault may be tied in with that as the auto aspect is disabled during an ESP/ASR fault condition.

Depollution? Mmmm, maybe you'll be lucky but I'm struggling to see why that would have come up here.

A similar thing happens if you run out of fuel. You get a warning about a fuel fault which disappears in due time.
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

Hi Paul, thanks for the reply, I've started the car over quite a few times and still there. The faults dont appear of I leave it over night until I actually turn the key and start the engine. :(
I'm hopeless with cars. I know nothing. That's why I thought I'd come on here. Haha. Was hoping someone had had a similar experience.
I think its definately in some sort of limp mode as the driving definately 100% isnt the same. As if it cant speed up.
I think I'll get it to the citroen garage, it just doesnt help the next appointments the 14th?1?1
Cheers for your time.

It's quite likely to be the EGR valve. Whereabouts are you, there might be someone near you can read its brain.

Hi Richard
I'm in leyland near preston. Would be great if so.
Is it true only certain diagnostic machines are the best for these cars.
It sounds stupid but I'm really reluctant to go to like a general garage or someone that doesnt know citroens. As last time it had a depollution fault Iand throwing loads of faults they said yea our diagnostic systems will find it, then turned round and said it didnt! spent over £500 on 2 different garages saying it was this and that, then finally went to a citroen garage (which I avoided because people said they were expensive) to have them find straight away it was just a single wire. And fixed it straight away. But 14th of march for next appointment is ages away.
Sorry for the rant. Haha.
I look forward to your response.

Also, don't forget that the display you are looking at is not necessarily current - as it's a fault log. So the Depollution fault may well have been as a result of an unrelated earlier issue that has since resolved itself. To check what current faults you have, it needs a proper diagnostic.
Please note, I'm no longer active on the Forum, so won't respond to messages.

What was the root cause of the problems dgardner?
I’m having exactly the same problems.
