Instrument Cluster Swap

Unread post by Ohfishalee »

Hello all. I'm trying to swap out my instrument cluster with one from a 206 automatic.

My Partner is a 2006 and the donor car is a 2003 206 and it has a gear position light in the dash. Will this work???

Probably not. Parts are specific to the electrical architecture employed on the vehicle and the connections to the system.

What I specifically should have asked is if at least the compatible readings (revs, speed, temp, fuel level, odometer) would register? I fully understand why the gear position resding might not work.

Thanks for the help so far.

What I meant by "connections to the system" are just that. Different PSA vehicles have different types of multiplexed data networks and where these are different on specific vehicles they won't 'talk' to each other. You will have a BSI, and Engine ECU, and ESP ECU and may have an instrument Cluster ECU. All these have to communicate with each other using the correct protocols. Otherwise it will be like Apples and Pears - 2 different things.

To ensure it works correctly, get an identical cluster from an identical vehicle and model, but be aware that clusters can change even with the same model depending on gearbox and other options fitted.

Also be aware that swapping over an instrument cluster from a compatible second hand vehicle that has a higher recorded mileage will also permanently increase the mileage to the same figure on your vehicle once connected ....

Noted with thanks!

Thanks!!

Donor vehicle was 2.0 HDI Partner. Scrapped the 206 cluster idea.

One thing that I noticed is that when I plugged the cluster in, it flashed 102000 for about 2 minutes. Then it updated to 187xxx.

Supposedly, the garage that performed the last service provided an invoice showing 169811 on the odometer.

They claimed to have checked for errors on their "computer".

Hard to believe that they actually performed an error check on their "computer" and showed an odometer reading that is nearly 20000 less than actual????

Abbreviated test drive completed - all guages are working as they should. Got the engine up to temperature (just under 90 deg Cel) looking good so far!
