Diagbox or Planet Peugeot

Post by Oil Can »

Hi. I have a 2004 Peugeot 206 1.4 with an automatic gearbox fault. I would like to scan the car using the Peugeot tool. My question is should I install Diagbox or Planet Peugeot? And what Windows operating system should I use? Thanks for any information \:D/

PP2000 is already contained in Diagbox. Diagbox determines the vehicle and will launch the appropriate application depending on the year of the vehicle. In your case it will Launch PP2000.

It depends what version of DB you have. If it is version 7, then stick to a 32 bit operating system like Windows 7.

Thank you for the information. I think I have Diagbox V7.02 up to V7.57. I have seen a cheap laptop with Windows Vista. Would that be ok or should I get one with Windows 7? Thanks again.

In this case it's better if it's Windows 7. It's also more stable and programs tend to work better on it. You can get a cheap laptop with it or buy a cheap license key for it. Don't go higher, because there are compability issues from what I heard.

I would agree with Windows 7. I have a Toshiba netbook with Windows 7 Starter installed, and it does a decent job. Once you have installed Diagbox (and got it up to the most suitable version), load it up, connect the hardware to each USB port in turn, and wait for a couple of minutes before unplugging it and moving it to a different port. This will allow Diagbox to detect it in the different USB ports, so as to minimise future potential hassle.

I will get a Windows 7 32 bit laptop and make sure to plug the hardware into all the USB ports. Thanks for the tips. They are very helpful. I'm sure I will have lots more questions in the future

Hello again, another question! I'm looking at laptops to install Diagbox on. I see a lot for sale that are Windows 7 64 bit, not many are 32 bit. Can I buy a Windows 7 64 bit and install Windows 7 32 bit on it? Would that cause problems for Diagbox? Would I be able to activate Windows 32 bit with the 64 bit activation key? Thanks

As long as the version of windows is the same (Home, Pro, Ultimate), the licence should activate both versions.

Hi. I bought the laptop with Windows 7 32 bit and the diagnostic cable. Are there any precautions I should take before I install the software on the laptop? Is there a guide you guys recommend following for the install? Thanks

Before you install anything, make sure you take a backup of the system registry. If installation goes toes up, which is common, then reinstalling again won't help, as the registry will need cleaning of all entries. So having a backup of the registry will save you having to go through that part, you can then just remove the installation folders the installation creates after you've restored the registry using the system restore option before trying again.

Follow the installation instructions you were given from your vendor and make sure you don't skip any parts. Always leave the WiFi network adapter switched ON, but make sure you have NO active or automatic internet connections to your home or any public WiFi hotspots. So to clarify, the installation uses the hardware ID of your network adapter as part of the activation process and if you have the WiFi card switched off, then installation will fail. But you don't want it to have any internet access, so make sure you have deleted any active connections and they are not set to automatically connect before installing.

I backed up the system registry and installed up to Diagbox V7.02. It seems to be working although I haven't connected it to the car yet. Should I stay on V7.02 or continue to update? The software I have seems to go up to V7.82. The car is a 2004 206. Thanks.

For a 2004 I would stick to either V7.57 or V7.58. These are stable versions.

Also don't for get to back up your licence file. Copy the licence file from C:\AWROOT\BIN\FI\APPDIAG.SYS before you update and store it safely so that you can restore it later if Diagbox deactivates.

I scanned the car with diagbox. It's showing two faults in the Automatic Transmission Control Unit and two in the Engine ECU.

Automatic Transmission Control Unit
Remote permanent fault. CAN engine torque information. No signal.
Remote permanent fault. Injection throttle potentiometer (CAN). No signal

Engine ECU.
Intermittent fault. Throttle position sensor. Low stop.
Intermittent fault. Downstream oxygen sensor. Open circuit.

The two faults in the engine ECU cleared. The two faults in the automatic transmission wouldn't clear. Any ideas what the automatic transmission codes point to?

If you can, it would help to post up the error codes themselves as well.
