Citroen xantia 1999 1.8 16v manual.
Quite a contreversal topic, but i would like to hear your expierences, suggestion and knowladge about oil grain and brands that are the best to use for this engine.
The owners manual suggests total 5w-40, 10w-40 or 15w-40
Where i live temperetures get below -25C and rises up to 30c but very reraly
Im running right now total 5w-40 syntetic. No oil conumsption or anything but it did develop hydraulic lifter tap noise on cold starts that lasts for a minute or so after couple of short drives.

Re: Citroen xantia 1.8i 16v oil topic
Check that your oil filter (if a screw-on canister type) is of good quality, and has a non-return valve in it (usually a rubber diaphragm, visible through the ring of holes in the base, next to the threaded hole). Purflux filters always have this, and can be recommended.
The non-return flap-valve prevents oil from draining back out of the filter when the engine is switched off, and so avoids start-up non-pressure running for a few seconds.
