Citroen c5 2001 cruise control

Unread post by tasosgec »

Good morning, my greetings from Greece. I have a citroen c5 ,of the year 2001 , 1.8 petrol engine . I want to install cruise control. I get a citroen cruise control switch, I install it to the com switch behind the steering wheel but I read that my car needs an extra brake switch ( red color). Now there is only one ( white color ) with 2 wires I think for the brake lights but even there is a hole beside the white switch, to accept another switch at the same size there are NO wires with plug to plug them to the red switch.
My ECU is Siemens.
At the clutch there is a switch.
A . Is it possible that this car don't need the extra brake switch to get cruise control working?
B. If this brake switch is necessary for cruise control ,where I must conect the wires from the second switch? Thanks for any help . It would be very convenient to have this cruise control working.

Hi, and :welc: to the Forum.

There are two pairs of wires in any of the possible brake switch setups; one pair that need a 'push to make' switch (mainly needed for the brake lights), and a second pair that use a 'push to break' switch (which is used to disconnect the cruise control). Because of this the secondary switch IS necessary. Early C5s has the two separate switch setup (white switch for 'push to make', red switch for 'push to break'). Later C5s had both switches combined into one unit.

I would take a good look at the wiring in the region around the clutch pedal where the switch is. It is possible that, when your C5 was built, the wiring was tucked up out of the way, so it did not get tangled around anything. I have (for a different wiring option) found the wiring was tucked well out of the way, making it tricky to get hold of it.

You will need a Lexia setup to enable the cruise control stalk once it is fitted. I had to do this on my first C5, and I had to look for an option relating to the cruise control stalk, switching it from 'absent' to 'present' (but I cannot remember where it was). It is also possible to use the Lexia to check the secondary brake switch (once fitted) to see if it is working.

Thanks James I will look again tomorrow around the clutch. It would be very helpful if I knew the numbers of the wires I m looking for cause it would be easier to truck them . And I haven't find any diagram

Does your model have a motorised throttle body? I thought a 1.8 of that year would have a cable operated throttle? If it has this then the CC wont work.

it has a cable operated throttle body. But my mechanic said it also has a motor ?? !! I was afraid of it since I read the instructions you send me yesterday. Otherwise I will have to get a motorized throttle body and wires and try to find the connections to make it work . Right ?

If there is a cable going directly into the throttle body then it is not motorised, It will have an idle control stepper motor & a position sensor but the throttle butterfly itself is manually operated by a cable.
I'm afraid you can't just fit a motorised throttle body onto a version that never had one to begin with, for a start the injection ECU wont have the terminals in it for the wiring.

Thats a separate throttle potentiometer.
Can you post your VIN so i can see what system you have?

Ok so that wasnt too helpful, your VIN shows an option for a normal pedal and an electronic pedal, it also shows a separate throttle potentiometer?
Can you confirm that your accelerator pedal has a cable on it and that it goes directly into the throttle body?

Unfortunately my car has not a motorized throttle body. So I guess that there is no way of having a cruise control 😕
