Hi all,
just a quick one which i would like to see what the general thought is, is it worth changing the gearbox oil or shall i just leave it and not fix something that isnt broken?
2010 C4 GP 1.6 HDI 6 speed semi automatic with just shy of 88k on the clock (owned since june 2019 with 52k on the clock)
the gears change fine on auto and semi mode, good pull in all the gears too and no noises.
If anyone has done this and has any tips, then please do share as i haven't done one on the car before and would be greatly appreciated.
many thanks in advance
Ben

Re: Gearbox Oil Change, is it worth it?
It's basically a manual gearbox with actuators for the gear changing, but I'd leave it alone to be honest unless you really want to do it.
The exact amount of oil has to be replaced that you drain out. This should be about 2.1 litres if draining, but always measure. Oil 75W80.

Re: Gearbox Oil Change, is it worth it?
My only experience with oil problems was with a manual Citroen CX. I checked it regularly for the first year or so I had it and it remained at full level and remained clean, after another 100k + miles the synchro failed on 5th gear when I checked the oil it was still near enough full but black as ink. The car had done 200k + by then but it taught me a lesson.

Would definitely change it at that mileage.
Always 75w80 GL4/5 oil in a post 80's manual Citroën.
Check in Total or MPM website how much your gearbox holds

Yes change It, or get it changed.Steve Walsh wrote: 05 Feb 2022, 10:36 ....................I don't agree with filled for life units of any sort..............
I think when they say sealed for life, is not what it means, I think it means life of the vehicle warranty, 2 years (unlimited miles), most people will do less than 20K in 2 years!!
Also, why do other manufacturers recommend changing gearbox oil, but Citroen generally don't!!

75w80 GL-4 is the oil for our manual boxes, to ensure smooth synchromesh action.
Worth checking if GL-4/5 is actually correct for these servo-operated 'boxes, as it's different stuff, but commonly offered by oil vendors to simplify stockholding.
