Hi all
I have a berlingo multispace 2012
Anyone know if an ABS problem can be connected to a faulty alternator?
Thanks

Re: ABS problem
No, there's no direct link. However, like any ECU, if the ECU does not have enough voltage supplied by the battery, then of course you will have issues, but that will affect other systems too.
You need a diagnostic if you have issues to determine were the fault is.

Re: ABS problem
Thanks for the reply Marc
I had the problem around 5000 miles ago at a guess and replaced the OSF sensor which seemed to cure it, but its back and diagnostic is saying the same side - OSF
Fault codes are:
2 x U1213 coming from ECU
1 x C1330 & 1 x C1331 (Front right signal sensor fault)
This fault also effects the engine by making it run somewhat erratically/jumpy engine when driving - is this normal?
Any further advice would be great

Re: ABS problem
Ok, so the U1213 faults are to do with invalid data being received by the engine ECU from the ABS ECU - which is to be expected when one of the sensors or the signals from the sensor are faulty. I would focus on the wheel sensor first of all.
All I can suggest is: Is the sensor a genuine OEM one and not second hand (to eliminate a cheap DOA part or a duff sensor in the first place). Was it the correct part number (remember these are different for each vehicles and variant). Next thoroughly check each connection of the sensor - and I mean inside the pins and the connector for corrosion, or loose pins / other damage. If the sensor is not supplied then you'll need to check the wire from the ABS block. I will see what I can dig out for you shortly.

| Fault Code: | C1330 |
| Description of Fault: | Front right wheel speed sensor signal fault: Open circuit, short circuit to positive, short circuit to earth. The signal from the wheel speed sensor is monitored by the ABS ECU every 20 milliseconds Possibility 1: Short circuit to earth Possibility 2: Open circuit Possibility 3: Front right wheel speed sensor (Not supplied) |
| Conditions for Fault to clear: | The data supplied by the front right wheel speed sensor is valid |
| Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active: | Warning Lamps: ABS indicator lamp, SERVICE indicator lamp.
|
| Symptoms: | Lighting of the ABS and ESP warning lamps If 3 sensors are faulty: The vehicle speed is no longer displayed on the instrument panel |
| Suspect Areas: |
|
| Fault Code: | C1331 |
| Description of Fault: | Front right wheel speed sensor signal fault: Coherence. If the ABS ECU suspects an error in the values from the wheel speed sensor, the time for recording the fault code is between 20 seconds and 80 seconds depending on the driving conditions Possibility 1: Failure of the front right wheel speed sensor Possibility 2: Electromagnetic interference Possibility 3: The width of the signal sent by the wheel speed sensor is incorrect |
| Conditions for Fault to clear: | The data supplied by the front right wheel speed sensor is valid |
| Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active: | Warning Lamps: ABS indicator lamp, SERVICE indicator lamp, Imperative stop warning lamp.

Re: ABS problem
Ok, as promised, here's the wiring diagram for the ABS System:
7020 is the ABS ECU.
7005 is the front Right ABS Wheel Sensor
7012: Right-hand front wheel speed signal reference
7011: Right-hand front wheel speed signal
So you'll need to check pin (18) for wire 7012 and pin (6) for wire 7011 on the 32 Pin Black Connector on the ABS ECU.

Re: ABS problem
Thanks for this information Marc
I managed to fix the ABS problem.. it was a broken wire where it meets the main wiring loom, just soldered back together
I still dont understand why it was effecting/making the engine run erratically when driving on low revs?
Anyway all sorted
Thanks again
