Fitting tyre pressure sensors on a C5 which don't have from factory

Unread post by thundermaster »

Hi to all,

I know that this may be a crazy question, but I ask seriously.

I am planning to buy a 2011 C5 X7 (1.6 thp), because mine (2006 2.0i exclusive) wants some costly repairs (and has almost 370.000 klms on board). The car I found doesn't have tyre pressure sensors. Is it easy to fit tyre pressure sensors to this car and if yes, will this work, like it was from the start (factory)? Can I take them from my 2006 previous model? (I don't find any reason to be different)

Many thanks!

No, I would forget it. Get an aftermarket set instead with a unit on the dash.

Trying to retro-fit is not going to be easy. You need the High Frequency Aerial, the Specific TPMS ECU, the wheel transmitter modules, and you may not even have the correct electrical harness in the car to start with. Then there is the programming of the BSI and possibly the instrument panel ECU and then the coding and pairing of the transmitters. There's no guarantee that this will work, as there may well be some other requirements / wiring in the fascia console wiring - as there are multiple versions of these too depending on options.

An aftermarket unit will communicate directly with the sensors and transmit data tot he unit in the cabin. It's quick and easy to do if you want this functionality.

Thank you very much! I hear more and more problems about 1.6 thp and this is starting to get me thinking. I had no particular problems with the two-liter atmospheric. Unfortunately 2.0 hdi in Greece is extremely rare to impossible to find and because I do many kilometers, I want economy in consumption. I will see what I will do.
