Peugeot Expert mk2 wiper problem will not turn off.

Unread post by Expert2010 »

Hi first of all thank you for letting me join .

My Peugeot Expert mk2 2010 has developed the following fault the wiper motor will not turn off .
I noticed a few days ago that my wipers were acting strange seemed to turn there self on and off thought I must of turned them on by mistake .

Then I woke up to find my wipers in the vertical position and battery flat .
Charged the battery started the van and wipers started and headlights turned on.
Headlights turned off ok but wipers kept running at one speed and will only stop by removing the harness from motor .
Soon as you connect harness they start again even with ignition off and key out I also noted that the mileage display illuminated like it does when you open the door.

I have used it with harness disconnected and everything seemed to work correct although I did stop one time and the passenger window went down for no apparent reason but went back up ok and has not happened since .
I have it booked for a diagnostic with a main dealer and priced up new fusebox module and wiper/light/audio column cluster both very expensive .

Can anybody give me an idea what it can be ? these vans seem to get a lot of electrical problems #-o

Id be leaning towards an under bonnet fusebox issue rather than the coms unit, I would say that if it were the coms unit the wipers would stop after the engine is switched off or at least after the BSI shuts down which only takes abound 3 minutes.
On the mk3 Expert/Dispatch this fuesbox is perfectly placed right underneath the scuttle drain so that if there is a problem with his drain then water is directed straight onto it
The cover also as a seal on it so if its not clipped back on 100% correct water can get in, also people being heavy handed with a screwdriver & breaking the clips when opening the cover.
Might be worth unplugging all the connectors & checking for signs of water ingress.

Not hard at all. Just make sure the battery is disconnected. Once all the plugs are off it you undo the main positive cable, the unit is held in with little tabs on the unit. Once you unclip it 7 lift it up a bit you will see the maxi fuse box clipped to the underside of it. This is a separate part (and part of the main wiring harness) so must be removed from the old & clipped onto the new one.

Thank you I have already tried a replacement stalk/light module (2nd hand) and that did not work guess next step is a 2nd hand fuse box there seem to be many compatible .
It wouldn't be anything to do with the maxi fuse box would it ?
I pulled all the plugs off and checked for moisture and held an hair dryer over complete unit to see if that helped .
Thinking back I think it happened not long after washing it but everything seems dry .
I have temporarily wired wipers up to a switch so I can use them . Been advised to get a diagnostic check by main dealer .
Thanks again for your help

If i had been taking a stab at this then i would have went for the fusebox first, like i said in my earlier post if it was a coms unit issue i would have expected it to stop once the ignition was switched off or that leas once the BSI has shut down.

Very unlikely as it is just literally a fusebox, no electronics whatsoever.

I tried a 2nd hand coms unit by just connecting it not actually fitting it as it made no difference to problem sent it back .
I was going to do the same with a 2nd hand fuse box but then thought it could be something completely different .
Spoken to City Motors and they said a dialogistic check would be charged at 1/2 hour rate of £48 hopefully that will pinpoint problem .
