Door replacement
Happy new year, and you can tell I've had some happy motoring with my 897 dadvan, as I've not been pestering you all. .. . well until recently when a berk in the middle lane of a round about decided to try and get into my car via the driver's side and took out the driver's door.
No one was hurt but I have a lovely dent in the door, so managed to pick up a replacement from Facebook that's colour matched for 40 quid (result!)
Is it complicated to replace the door, as it's like for like (just different colour trim on door panel inside.
The panel at the bottom is also dented, is that easy to replace or will I need to get it cut out and replaced.
Sadly it's not being repaired by the insurance company as they wrote it off as a total loss as it's too expensive to replace the door for them.
If so can any one share any tips and diagrams on what to do.

Re: Door replacement
If you cant reach the bolt heads to the door hinges the wing will have to come off.
Sill can be cut out and patched or a cross cut which then long bars inserted to manipulate the steel back out then weld up the cross cut and grind back. Theres good videos on youtube about sill repairs your find them pretty easy.
If you decided to change the whole sill it might be a neater choice along with work that might not need to be done.
Everything is all choices , i tend to suit the pocket , as in when its in my pocket & i can afford then its job done.

Re: Door replacement
A good body man would straighten all that damage without the need to replace anything. Have you asked?

Re: Door replacement
I picked up an immaculate door for 40 quid. Cheaper than the 60 quid an hour I was quoted for the door. He reckons it would be 4 hours for the door and 6 for the trim panel at the bottom then to be respayed and colour matched would be extra.

Re: Door replacement
The sill I would leave to a professional as these have to be treated and mig welded. I would take Gibbo's advice and check with a repairer as to whether the damage is structural and serious enough to warrant replacement first of all.
As for the door replacement, it's quite simple, but obviously have something / someone to hold and support it whilst lining it up and adjusting.
Removing
Disconnect the connector (1) at the door (2) grommet.
Remove the door check strap (3) mounting bolts.
Remove the hinge (4) bolts.
Refitting is the same in reverse order.

Re: Door replacement
As always, thanks Marc - much appreciated, will get hold of another body shop and see what they say regarding the sill.

Have a look at Mr Dent or similar companies they've become very proficient in that sort of work.Romtag wrote: 29 Jan 2022, 14:40 As always, thanks Marc - much appreciated, will get hold of another body shop and see what they say regarding the sill.
