C5 (X7) ESP/ASR fault

Hello everyone this is my first time posting so here goes!

I have a C5 x7 2008 estate (VIN VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]) and it failed it’s mot last year on the a few things including the steering rack leaking! I changed the steering rack, both sides lower bushes, the drivers side cv joint and last but not all least the rear brake pads and disc’s.

All went well on replacing them all it wasn’t until I did the test drive that I now get the ESP kicking in when I turn the steering wheel over half a turn each way at low speeds (above 10 mph).

I was wondering if anybody had any ideas what it could be, I know that you need lexia to find fault codes but I’m a newbie so I need so help! Many thanks of

Yes, we need codes. The ESP system has plenty of fault codes and that really would be a pre-requisite to save time guessing.

However, some observations: When you replaced the steering rack, were you aware that there are 2 types and each has a different steering angle? If you fit the incorrect one you will get problems. I mention this as you say the warning comes on when turning the wheel either way. Other possibilities are the Steering wheel angle sensor - did you calibrate this after changing the rack.

It will need recalibrating under the following circumstances:

• Removing - refitting: Flywheel angle sensor
• Track adjustment
• Replacement of the dynamic stability control (ESP) ECU
• Replacement of the switch module at the steering wheel
• Work carried out on the steering column or mounting

Thanks for the advice I didn’t know about the steering angle reset but do you need the correct fault code reader?
I was aware of the two types of steering rack and I did get the one for the 17” wheels and standard suspension.

The reason for posting was to be able to contact people that have lexia services available in my area.
