Putting my foot on the brake pedal results in a squelching noise from the pedal area. The brakes work fine, as far as I can tell. What's causing this?

Don't know what the noise is, but my previous two Xantias did it all the time I owned them.

How loud is it ?
Every hydro Citroen I've driven (quite a few of them) makes a sort of whoosh/squelch noise when pressing the brake pedal.

Just check that there isn't a little pool of LHM oil collecting in the footwell/toeboard area - if so the rubber seal on the dosér valve is probably leaking (common on most hydraulic Cit's).
