X7 seatbelt

Post by rogerc5 »

Hello folks
My X7 is amazing now it's been sorted.
However (there's always a however!), the drivers seatbelt is reluctant to retract just like in my old mk1.
Is this common to all PSA cars?
I've tried the usual fix of pulling it out max and cleaning and drying plus a bit of silicone spray around the orifice.
Any suggestions please?

Unfortunately the only recommendation for situations with poor retraction (and no other issues like sticking) is to fully pull out the belt and check for any debris on either side of the belt. No cleaners or solvents are to be used, just warm non-soapy water to clean the belt. If there is no debris causing the belt to stick, the only option is to replace the belt.

Thanks Marc- Only 75k on the clock too.
I can't remember when the mk1 started to fail but it respond to a good fettling.

Hi Roger mine is the same; one in any two times. I've just been helping it retract by pushing it but it kind of looks like the plastic 'mouth' catches the belt a bit. Mine might be different though.

I think that's where to try a bit of silicone spray Graeme.
Amazing that the car is full of tech but the simple things are poorly designed.

On a C5 Mk1 I used a fabric cleaner (I got some from Poundland) to get the belt as clean as possible, and then (once the belt was dry) I applied some silicone spray. The belt then retracted faster than a worm that has spotted a bird!

Sounds good
Did you spray the whole belt?

Yes, both to clean and then to lubricate it. I got the spray from ScrewFix. This is what I got;
