C5 ESP\ABS problems...

Unread post by Amarra »

I'm cursed....Firs my activa gets eaten up by rats ,then the speedometer gives up on my xantia x1 ,now this...
Anyone knows a witch or a priest ?

My C5 (2010 3l V6 HD) has some ABS\ESP problem.
Out of the nowhere the car suddenly turned into a christmas tree.
Beeping sound ,then on the dashboard I got some messages.
ABS\ESP failure and handbrake failure.
I had to manually disengage the hand break to get the car moving.
After that massages stopped ,but after maybe 10km it showed up again.
Turning off the engine ,the on gets rid of the messages for couple of km .
I got an oil change 2 days ago ,can it be the problem ?
(It was my first time that I took any of my cars to a service station.I currently do not have access to my tools and garage ,but I did not want to wait with the oil change.)
I'm open to any suggestion to the cause of the problem.

Again sorry for my english and thanks in advance.

Don't panic too much. There are usually lots of messages when there is a problem with the ESP system, as the electronic handbrake is also controlled by the ESP ECU, along with other functions like hill start assist. An ESP fault will also affect things like cruise control / speed limiter.

So you need to determine the fault - having a diagnostic is essential - it will guide you to where the fault is and should provide a fault code. Post it up here when you get it.

If the speed wheel sensor has been knocked or the cable damaged or the electrical connection to the ESP ECU, then this may trigger a fault. But without a code it will be difficult to help you.

... it could be the battery "witch".
Modern batteries don't die slowly, but quickly and suddenly - and control units don't like undervoltage.

Thanks I will get an appointment to an official citroen service ,maybe they can at least provide the fault codes.
I'm hoping too its just the battery a couple times the radio acted funny (turned on\off ,factrory reseted itself) that can be caused by voltage fluctuation or at least that is what I'm thinking....
And again thank you guys ,always fast ,helpful responses ,its good to have place like this!

I got a service and bought a new battery ,60km later the fault did not showed up ,but they said maybe the handbrake switch is also faulty.
I hope its fixed.
The radio is still acting strange ,the down time is much shorter and no factory reset.
But I noticed some strange sound at higher speed from the front of the car ,half of the screws are missing from the cover under the engine.
Great job first service a solid 5/7 !

Update:
The belt tensioner broke...
Maybe it was the problem after all.
Strange ,there was not any noise from it.
