2017 Peugeot 2008 1.6hdi water leak

Post by andy666 »

Hi
I am new to this group
please bear with me if i get it wrong
im touching 60 and not great with this sort of thing

I have a 2017 2008 1.6hdi 100 dv6fd engine
runs perfect , however i have a water leak
I looked underneath and i can see a small clearish pipe sticking out the bottom back of the engine
it goes through a guide hole more to front (pully side) of engine and its at the back so cant really see where it goes
I was thinking maybe a leak off pipe for the water pump if it started to leak
not too sure ,thats why i came here to ask for advice and help
Any help on this matter please??
Thanks

Hi Andy. Welcome to FCF. Does your car have air conditioning?

Are you having to top up the cooling system at all?

The clear pipe is probably linked to the A/C. When the A/C is running condensation forms on the evaporator, which then has to be dealt with. In hot weather you can see puddles forming under A/C equipped cars after they have been parked for a while; this is the condensation runoff from the A/C.

The fact you are having to top up the coolant on a very regular basis does indicate you have a coolant leak of some sort. To check that it is not an internal leak (failed head gasket, for example) get a friend to rev the car (the engine/coolant needs to be cold for this to be safely done) while you have the cap off the coolant tank. If, every time the engine is revved, you see bubbles would indicate a gasket failure. What colour (if any) is the exhaust? White indicates water vapour, blue is oil and black is unburnt fuel (often caused by a blocked air filter).

Theres no smoke out the exhaust
and i dont use the aircon much, not in the last month-6weeks,too cold here
i did get the wife to rev the car and there was no bubbles no colour in the water
and the oil cap looks clean too,
there is a small puddle of water every time i park up and go out a few mins later

it is at the front of the engine but not directly under the front pully
could it be the water pump?? its done 60,000 miles so might need some work now

Check/collect the water that is dripping. If it is clear and clean then it is probably AC condensate. If it is clearish it might be from the windscreen scuttle drain. If it is coloured then it could be coolant. Once you know what the water is you will be able to figure out how many things you are dealing with.

Hi
I dipped my finger in it and it is anti-freeze
I put a small jug under it and collected a bit
looks like the same as in the expansion tank
I think I might strip it down a bit and see if I can see where it is coming from
its one of these problems i think i might just need to look harder ,try a mirror
see if i can see anything
the trouble with water is it spreads quickly
I will update here if I do find anything

Do you fill your water expansion tank to the top or to the mark? Do you check it when the engine is cooled and is this water loss constant? The leaking water may just be running down the outside of this pipe from a water hose or joint above it.
Hellrazor's tank check is a valid thing to try - any obvious bubbles will mean gasket or jacket failure. If it is a seal or joint leak it might not occur when the cap is off and then only when the system is put under pressure again so check for leaks underneath as well as bubbles.
