C5 Diesel 2008 heater not working

Post by garryd »

Hi all

My C5 Exclusive (reg GL08PLJ) has decided to not warm up - of course, it's nearly winter! It suddely stopped (A/C is OK) so I suspect a blown fuse.

There seems to be an additional heater in the diesels, but the handbook doesn't tell me where it is or which fuse feed it is on...

Any ideas where I can find it?

Some diesel models have an additional diesel fired heater but don think it was available on mk2 C5's in the UK, I've never seen one anyway. this may be what the handbook is referring to.
You find them on UK C8's, synergies & they were an option on some Xantia estates.
What your C5 does have though is an electrical element in the heater box to help get heat faster however even if this wasnt working it should eventually still get warm.
I'd be looking a the cooling system first. Coolant level ok? Are the heater matrix & radiator pipes getting warm?

Thanks Wheeler
I had been looking around the heater and controls without much time to spend on it - too busy trying to find diesel. Thought a fuse would be a quick fix - no such luck!
Here in the South there are only about one in a dozen filling stations with either petrol or diesel. Luckily I found a Sainsbury's twelve miles away (after my appoinment at the NHS - causing me to pause my worry if I might even get back home, since I hadn't put anything in the tank for 10 days and the needle was bent banging on the emtpty stop!)
Now both panics (hosp and fuel) are temporarily over, I'll get the oily rag out to explore more.
I'll let you know what I find
Best regards

Hi again

Quick look under the bonnet after a reasonable run (ie enough to reach temperature) - rad pipes warm, coolant level OK. Have been looking in Owners Handbook for possible fuse actuating the flaps for air-flow dierection but there doesn't seem to be one listed.
Had similar trouble on my last C5 Estate ('53 plate), but that was easy (?) to fix since the flaps were accessible without rebuilding the car!
I think I'm going to end up at my local Citroen specialist (there are still some around - this one is SGG on the old Dunsfold airfield where Top Gear is filmed). He's got a similar aged C5, so I expect he knows where to look!
